Floriano Canale (1575 - 1603) Italie Floriano Canale (also Canali or Canalis; probably born in Brescia before 1575 and probably died in Brescia after 1612) was an Italian composer, organist and physician. For a long time scholars disagreed about Floriano Canale's origins. Numerous dedications and the titles of his works show that he was born near or in Brescia itself. 1 He was a canon regular and from 1581 until 1603 organist at the convent of San Giovanni Evangelista in Brescia. He was probably also a physician, since the dedication of the medical treatise De secreti universali raccolti et sperimentati is signed with his name: Da Brescia, 12 dicembre 1612, Florian Canale. If the two persons are identical - several elements suggest this - Canale was still alive in December 1612. Canale was versatile: he wrote treatises on medical, agricultural, hunting, musical and theological themes. He was a good musician and an excellent organist. (Hide extended text)...(Read all)
