He was born on 1 August 1851 in Brussels, where he completed his musical studies and worked as a composer and mandolinist, as you can read in his business cards. He’s the author of a theoretical-practical method for mandolin, published in Leipzig in 1900. From this period the most well-known piece is "Pourquoi pleurer?", for mandolin and piano, given to the prints in Hamburg in 1898. In the autumn of 1899 he visited Venice and subsequently decided to move to Italy, where he had also maintained contacts in previous years, eventually settling in Florence, where he died on 30 August 1927. This second phase dates back to a series of easy pieces for piano, including the two barcaroles 'Sur la plage', from 'Heures amusantes', first published in Milan in 1913 and 'Sur le lac' from 'Le petit pianiste', a few years earlier, reissued together with the previous one in 1942.
