I am a traditional folk musician with a bit of jazz background, too. My main instruments are the fiddle, mandolin and djembe, although I also can play guitar and harmonica. As a musician, I mostly play for contradances and the occasional private function such as weddings or birthday parties.
My band, The Sybaritic String Band, has a monthly first Saturday Contradance in Vancouver, BC which is held in collaboration with The Rogue Folk Club and is held at the St. James Community Hall. Please do drop in if you're in town.
In the mid 1970s and early 1980s I played in a band called The Cranberry Lake Jug Band. We recorded 3 albums and several of my early compositions are on those 2 albums.
Over the years, I have continued to compose various kinds of tunes, mostly in the "folk" tradition style and mostly to be danced to at contradances. Waltzes, breakdowns, jigs, reels, hornpipes and more modern styles predominate. Please let me know if you like my tunes and play them for dancers, and of course, if you record any of them, a small royalty cheque would be appreciated.
