The actual quintet was composed in 1840. The title
‘Schweizerischer Kuhreigen’ means pastoral songs
used to attract the cows to be milked. The compositions
of several musicians are based on such pastoral songs.
The autograph of the quintet is preserved in the
Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg Carl von
Ossietzky (Signature ND VI 3361h Nr. 2) in single
parts. I am indebted to the director of this library
for the permission for publication.
