Giuseppe Maria Jacchini (1663 - 1727) was an Italian cellist and composer. Jacchini received his musical education as a singer at San Petronio in Bologna, where he was shown in the records from 1677. He learned composition with Giacomo Antonio Perti and violoncello with Domenico Gabrielli. In the "capella musicale" by S. Petronio Jacchini worked as a cellist, possibly he was the Giosefo del Violonzino mentioned between 1680 and 1688. He mainly composed instrumental music with cello, which in his time increasingly replaced the viol as a bass instrument. He dedicated his Opus 4 to the composing Bolognese count Pirro Albergati, who had worked for Jacchini's permanent position in the orchestra of the cathedral.

Jacchini became a member of the prestigious "Accademia Filarmonica" in 1688 , and after 1716 he also taught as a maestro of Cello at the "Collegio dei Nobili di S. Francesco Saverio" and the Collegio S. Luigi. Jacchini resigned from the chapel of San Petronio on April 30, 1727.

His cello works have helped to solidify the position of the cello as a solo instrument. Some of his works contain virtuoso cello passages and are considered the forerunners of the cello concerto. As an excellent companion, he often performed at the city's theater. The music-loving German study traveler from Uffenbach , who heard him in Bologna in 1715, was fascinated by his technique and admired the purity, speed and loveliness with which he mastered the high registers of his instrument. The concerts with one or two trumpets intended for festive occasions at San Petronio are in the tradition of the works of his teacher Perti, as well as Giuseppe Torellis and Petronio Franceschini.
