Ajoutée par dereksheldon, 04 Déc 2023 Thomas Hardy's attention is drawn to the hedgerow songbirds on a late afternoon in Spring. They are full of life, behaving "as if all Time were theirs". In the second verse, he notes a remarkable fact: not so long ago, these proud songsters didn't even exist as birds - they were "only particles of grain, and earth, and air, and rain." My new music sets Hardy's poem as a song, including a wistful melody twixt the verses. |
