Ajoutée par magataganm, 27 Avr 2021 Krzysztof Borek (? - 1557 or after 1573) was a Polish composer of Renaissance music. He was considered one of the first in Poland to compose full mass cycles. Probably associated with the band of rorantists in Krakow at the time. Nineteenth-century sources say that in 1521 he was at the court of Queen Bona, where he was responsible for the administration of court and political tasks. He became a clergyman and royal chaplain and finally, the bandmaster of the Rorantist band at Wawel. The date of death was assumed to be 1557. However, almost all of this information has been contested. Some researchers believe that they are two different people named Borek. Only two of his works remain today: The preserved works are two, probably incomplete (one voice is missing), 5-voice acappella masses, intended for the choir: 1- Te Deum laudamus Mass (with annotation 1573 which may mean the year of the composition of the work, but also the year of its copying) - an incompletely imitated mass, based on the cantus firmus melody of the Te Deum laudamus hymn. 2-an untitled mass (Latin sine nomine; K-G-C-S) - reimitated mass; possibly written on the basis of an unidentified cantus firmus; possibly parodied Both are found in the musical instruments of the royal band. Missa Mater Matris, which is a modification of Missa Mater Patris by Josquin des Prés, has also reached our times. Most musicologists assume that Borek was in some way connected with the Rorantist band (it is possible that he was even its leader), and his masses were written especially for this group. The entire Te Deum mass (without the missing fifth voice) and the Sanctus of the untitled mass, in the 5th, are published today in print. reconstruction of Zygmunt M. Szweykowski and Mirosław Perz (Krakow 1964, 1993). Source: Wikipedia (https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krzysztof_Borek). Although originally written for Chorus (SATB), I created this arrangement of the Missa "Te Deum Laudamus" for Woodwind Quartet (Flute, Oboe, English Horn & Bassoon). |
