Ajoutée par kheidtmann, 08 Mar 2022 More than 120 composers, including Peter Tchaikovsky, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Sergei Rachmaninoff, gave musical interpretations of almost 1500 works of Taras Shevchenko (Тарас Шевченко ;). Mykola Lysenko alone set 90 of his works to music. Shevchenko was politically convicted and persecuted by the Russian tsar and his police for explicitly promoting the independence of Ukraine, writing poems in the Ukrainian language. His literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and, to a large extent, the modern Ukrainian language. |
