Charles Lenschow 1890 États-Unis Charles Lenschow, conductor and composer, was the musical director of the Germania Orchestra when it arrived in Philadelphia in 1848 on its tour of the United States. The orchestra's stay in Philadelphia was financially unsuccessful and it disbanded shortly thereafter. The name of the ensemble was adopted by a Philadelphia organization in 1856. Conducted by Carl Sentz, Charles Schmitz, and William Stoll, Jr., this new Germania Orchestra was incorporated in 1860 and disbanded in 1895. About one half its members continued playing in the Henry Thunder Orchestra, all of which was incorporated into the Philadelphia Orchestra.
