Brother of John Hop­kins, Ed­ward be­gan his mu­sic­al ca­reer by sing­ing in the choir at the Cha­pel Roy­al. He lat­er played the or­gan at Mitch­am, Sur­rey; St. Peter?s, Is­ling­ton; and St. Luke?s, Ber­wick Street.
