Jean-Francois

et Lubin
Justine
Favart and Adolphe
Blaise'sAnnette et
Lubinwas premiered on 15
February 1762 at the
Paris Opera-Comique - the
first new production at
that theater following
its merger with the
Comedie-Italien. It was a
resounding success: by
the time the season came
to an end, on 3 April, it
had been almost
continuously on the
program with no decline
in interest from the
public, and it remained
in the repertoire for
more than thirty years.
Countless new editions,
translations, and
parodies of the play bear
witness to its impact far
beyond the borders of
Paris. Like all of
Favart's works, it deals
with the subject of
natural love,
unencumbered by
considerations of money
or social status
endangering it from the
outside through powerful
aristocratic or wealthy
rivals. The plot is based
on a literary model, the
like-named tale by
Jean-Francois Marmontel,
which is in turn based on
a contemporary
occurrence.
Annette and her
cousin Lubin are sharply
reprimanded for their
love by an estate
administrator (Le Bailli)
who himself has designs
on Annette. He takes
advantage of Annette's
illegitimate pregnancy to
extort her: only by
marrying him can she
escape condemnation by
society and the church.
But Annette and her lover
are able to gain the
protection of the local
squire (Le Seigneur), and
the story ends happily
with a conciliatory
gesture from the lord of
the manor.
The
second volume in our
series OPERA, Annette et
Lubin, consists of a
cloth-bound book and an
Edirom file stored on a
USB card in credit-card
format. The number of
simultaneous users of the
edition's digital

unlimited. Further

OPERA: Spectrum
of European Music Theatre
in Separate Editions is
dedicated to critical
editions of outstanding
works of European music
theatre from the 17th to
the 20th centuries.
Compositions of
French, Italian, German,
English, Scandinavian and
Slavic origin are being
edited. These include
specific genres which
have seldom been given
attention in editorial
undertakings until now
and which present their
own editorial problems,
such as ballet, theatre
music, melodrama or
operetta.
A new
feature is the form of
the presentation in
so-called hybrid
editions. While the
scores appear in
traditional cloth-bound
volumes, the musical and
textual sources, the
editions of the dramatic
texts, as well as the
critical commentaries are
prepared and presented on
an electronic platform
(Edirom). Thanks to
this ability to access
the underlying sources,
the editorial decisions
are completely
transparent to the
user. This
special editorial access
being implemented by
OPERA's editions uses the
software Edirom, which
was developed in a
project of the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft
(German Research
Foundation) based at the
University of Paderborn.
All components of the
electronic part are
encoded according to the
modern standard of XML.
The text components
follow the standard of
the Text Encoding
Initiative (TEI).

English-German-French-Dut
ch. I Love the
207 was composed in
February 2010 for a
commission by Osumi
Symphonic Band in Kyoto.
It was first performed on
25 April 2010 by Osumi
Symphonic Band, conducted
by Masanori Ozaki. This
piece begins with an
introduction to present
the instruments, followed
by a light scherzo. The
title is an affectionate
reference to the commuter
rail 207 series of the
West Japan Railway
Company. When the band
started their activity,
the 207 series trains
began running through the
fields next to the
building where they
practice. The composer
hopes that the trains
continue to run and bring
smiles to people’s
faces.

Dit orkest bracht op 25
april 2010 de
première, onder
leiding van dirigent
Masanori Ozaki. Het werk
begint met een
inleidingwaarin de
instrumenten worden
gepresenteerd, gevolgd
door een licht scherzo.
De titel verwijst naar de
forenzentrein van het
type 207 van de West
Japan Railway Company.
Toen het orkest begon,
begonnen ook de treinen
uit de207-serie door de
velden te rijden naast
het gebouw waar wordt
gerepeteerd. De componist
hoopt dat de treinen
zullen blijven rijden tot
tevredenheid van de
mensen die er gebruik van
maken.

Das Stück beginnt
einer Einleitung zur

ein leichtes Scherzo. Der
Titel ist eine liebevolle
Anspielung auf die
Pendlerzüge der Serie
207 der West-Japanischen
Eisenbahngesellschaft.
Während der
Anfangszeit des
Blasorchesters begannen
die Züge der
207er-Serie die Felder
ganz in der Nähe des
Proberaums zu
durchqueren. Mit diesem
Stück will der
Komponist seiner Hoffnung
Ausdruck verleihen, dass
die Züge auchweiterhin
fahren und ein Lächeln
auf die Gesichter der
Menschen zaubern
mögen.

affectueusement
référence aux
trains de banlieue de la

l’introduction de

207 inizia con la

treni della periferia

rather complex, resulting

edition of Jean Sibelius
Works only in 2013.In
summer 1894 Sibelius went
to Central Europe,
carrying among others a
plan for an opera freely
based on the Kalevala in
his mind. But during this
trip he reassessed his
composing: I think I have
found my old self again,
musically speaking. I
think I really am a tone
painter and a poet. As a
result he abandoned his
opera plans, but musical
parts may have found
their way into the
Lemminkainen pieces which
he started composing
during that time.
Definitely the overture
had, it is now known and
loved as The Swan of
Tuonela.Lemminkainen
became popular from the
beginning and has
attained a fixed position
in the concert
repertoire.On
Lemminkainen and the
Maidens on the Island a
critic opined: We do not
hesitate to award this
tone painting of
Lemminkainen's erotic
emotional world the first
prize among all the young
composer's works.
Sibelius himself said
about Lemminkainen in
Tuonela: The cradle song
at the end of the work is
maternal love, which
rakes the pieces of
Lemminkainen together
from the River Tuonela.
and commented on
Lemminkainen's Return: I
would like to see more
pride in us Finns. Why
should we be ashamed?
This is the underlying
thought in Lemminkainen's
Return. Lemminkainen is
just as good as the
noblest of earls. He is
an aristocrat, without
question an
aristocrat!. $53.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 3 to 4 weeks

concerto has always
seemed an especially
attractive medium to me,
not necessarily because
of its expectations of
virtuosity (although
flaunting it when you've
got it certainly has its
place), and emphatically
not because of the
perception of a concerto
as a contest, but because
so much of what I write
feels song-like; I'm very
much at home with the
age-old texture of melody
and accompaniment. I
hope, before I move on,
to have the opportunity
to write concertos for
all the major
instruments, and perhaps
some of the rarer ones as
well. The oboe is not
only one of the major
instruments, it is one of
my favorite instruments.
I've always loved its
sound, but since moving
to New York I have gotten
to hear and, in some
cases, know some
extremely fine oboists
who broadened my
appreciation of the
instrument's
possibilities. I
especially remember a
concert, probably in the
late 1960's, in which
Humbert Lucarelli played
a Handel concerto,
filling out large melodic
leaps with cascading
scale passages in a way
that raised the hair on
the back of your neck,
somewhat in the way that
John Coltrane's sheets of
sound did. The sweeping
scales in the second
movement of my concerto
were definitely inspired
by Bert Lucarelli's
performance. The first,
third and fifth movements
of the Concerto for Oboe
and Orchestra are
song-like, whereas the
second and fourth have
strong scherzo and dance
qualities, including a
couple of sections that
sound like out-and-out
pirate dances to me. The
hymn-like tune at the
beginning of the middle
movement was originally
begun as a vocal piece to
be sung by my wife, son
and daughter at my
brother's wedding, but I
couldn't come up with
good works for it, so it
ended up as an
instrumental chant. The
opening and closing of
the concerto make use of
the oboe's uniquely
soulful singing. I had
not heard Pamela Woods
Pecha's solo playing in
person when she
approached me about
writing a concerto, but I
had heard her fine
recording of chamber
music for oboe and
strings by the three B's
(English, that is: Bliss,
Bax and Britten) with the
Audubon Quartet. I
actually already had some
oboe concerto ideas in my
sketchbooks; although I
didn't end up using any
of those earlier ideas,
it's interesting that
most of them tended to
share the general feeling
and tonality of the
eventual opening of the
concerto. The work was
completed on October 13,
1994. I hate the
compromises involved in
making piano reductions
-- perhaps I would feel
differently if I were a
more accomplished pianist
-- so I often decide to
make piano reductions for
four hands rather than
two. My good friend Jon
Kimura Parker is a
terrific sight-reader,
and I roped him into
coming over to my place
on February 17, 1995, to
help me accompany Pamela
on the first read-through
of the piece. The first
performance of the work
took place on July 21,
1995, at the American
Music Festival in Duncan,
Oklahoma, with Mark
Parker conducting the
Festival Orchestra. $80.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks
