Albert Siklós (1878 - 1942) Hongrie Albert Siklós né à Budapest le 26 juin 1878, et mort dans la même ville le 3 avril 1942, est un compositeur, violoncelliste et pédagogue hongrois. Albert Siklós étudie la composition à l'Académie de musique de Budapest avec Hans von Koessler, parallèlement à des études de droit. De 1901 à 1904, il est violoncelliste à l'Orchestre de la société philharmonique de Budapest. Enseignant à l'Institut Fodor à partir de 1905, il est ensuite professeur de composition, d'esthétique et de chant à l'Académie de musique de Budapest. De 1928 jusqu'en 1937, il édite plusieurs revues sur la musique, publie un certain nombre d'articles sur l'histoire de la musique, l'esthétique musicale, ainsi qu'une encyclopédie de la musique en deux volumes écrite en 1923. Albert Siklós a composé deux opéras, une pantomime, deux symphonies et une symphonie pour douze contrebasses, quatre suites pour orchestre, deux concertos pour violoncelle, un concerto pour piano et un concerto pour violon. Ferenc Farkas
(1905-2000) was one of
Hungary's most important
20th-century composers.
He studied with Leó
Weiner and Albert
Siklós at the Academy
of Music in Budapest from
1922 to 1927, then
continued his studies in
Rome at the Accademia di
Santa Cecilia with
Ottorino Respighi. From
1935 he taught at the
Higher Music School in
Budapest, then at the
Conservatory in
Kolozsvár, and later
at the
Székesfehérvár
Conservatory (he was also
director of the latter
two). In 1949 he was
appointed teacher and
later head of the
department of composition
at the Academy of Music
Budapest. His oeuvre of
more than 700 works
comprises almost every
musical genre. His
technical virtuosity as
acomposer and his
knowledge of style won
him international
recognition.

Gyula Dávid
(1913-1977) was one of
the most important
members of the generation
of Hungarian composers
who followed Bartók
and Kodály. His ?uvre
includes stage,
orchestral, oratorial,
chamber, and solo
instrumental works.
Although he rarely quoted
folk material directly in
his music, folksong,
popular music and the
spirit of the Hungarian
musical tradition
permeates his works. In
the last two decades of
his life he wrote atonal
and twelve-tone
compositions. With his
Wind Quintet (composed
1949) he created a genre
which plays an important
role in the new Hungarian
music. Gyula Dávid
studied composition with
Albert Siklós and
Zoltán Kodály at
the Academy of Music in
Budapest,graduating in
1938. Between 1938 and
1945 he worked in several
orchestras as viola
player. From 1945 to 1949
he was conductor at
Hungarian National
Theatre, than he became
leader of the Ensemble of
the Hungarian Army. From
1961 to his retirement he
was professor at the
Teacher Training Faculty
of the Academy of Music
in Budapest. Between 1951
and 1960 he taught wind
chamber music, music
theory and wind
orchestration at the
Academy of Music. He was
one of the founders of
the Hungarian Artists'
Union. He was awarded the
Erkel Prize (1952, 1955)
and the Kossuth Prize
(1957).
