Leopold Mozart (1719 - 1787) Autriche Johan Georg Leopold Mozart (14 novembre 1719 - 28 mai 1787) était un compositeur, professeur de musique et violoniste. Il est aujourd'hui surtout connu comme père et professeur de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, mais était assez célèbre à son époque.
Leopold Mozart est né le 14 novembre 1719 à Augsbourg (aujourd'hui en Allemagne), dans une famille d'artisans et de relieurs. Il part à Salzbourg pour étudier le droit et la théologie, mais s'intéresse plus à la musique, et entre au service du comte Thurn und Taxis en tant que violoniste et secrétaire, en 1740. En 1743, le prince-archevêque de Salzbourg le prend à son service comme compositeur et maître de concert. En 1747 il épouse Anna Maria Pertl, qui lui donne sept enfants, dont deux seulement survivent, Maria Anna Wallburga Ignatia née en 1751 (surnommée Nannerl) et Wolfgang Amadeus né en 1756.
En 1756, année de naissance de Wolfgang Amadeus, Leopold écrit son Versuch einer gründlichen Violinschule (Traité en vue d'une méthode fondamentale pour le violon), une méthode de violon très importante qui sera traduite dans toute l'Europe. Aujourd'hui, c'est une des principales sources pour l'exécution authentique des ?uvres du XVIIIe siècle, avec le traité de Johann Joachim Quantz Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversière zu spielen (sur la flûte traversière) et celui de Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach VERSUCK SIMPHONIE CKALOFOP (sur le jeu au clavier).
Leopold consacre ses qualités de pédagogue à l'éducation musicale de ses deux enfants. Les dons exceptionnels de son fils le décident à organiser des concerts à travers l'Europe pour exhiber ses talentueux enfants. En 1763, il devient vice-maître de chapelle à la cour du prince-archevêque de Salzbourg. Leopold Mozart meurt le 28 mai 1787, à Salzbourg (aujourd'hui en Autriche).
Son ?uvre la plus connue (Cassation en Sol pour orchestre et jouets ou Symphonie des jouets) fut un temps attribuée à Joseph Haydn.
