composed his oratorio for
the Feast of the
Ascension in Leipzig in
1735. Though this work
has the duration of a
cantata, the choice of
text places it among the
oratorios. It combines
the biblical account of
the Ascension with
chorales and free
madrigal poems. As in
other works which were
composed during this same
year (e.g. theChristmas
Oratorio), Bach reveals a
special fondness for
colourful orchestration,
with two flutes, two
oboes, three trumpets,
timpani and strings,
creating a splendid
Baroque sound with a
strikingly festive
character. This
edition is based on the
thoroughly researched
musical text from theNew
Bach Edition.

major. Language:
Latin. The Missa
pastoralis in C,
published here for the
first time, dates from
about 1808. It belongs to
a cycle of sacred pieces,
a ,,Cursus
sacro-harmonicus, which
Ryba planned as
Ordinarium and Proprium
settings for all the
Sundays and feast days of
the church year. The
Missa pastoralis in C is
a pastoral Mass for the
matutinal service at
Christmas. As in the
Missa Pastoralis in B
flat, in this Mass Ryba
makes use of concertante
instruments: trumpet and
a bassoon, an instrument
seldom employed
solistically in a Mass,
but which gives this work
a unique character. $37.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

Symphony No. 1 Pater
Noster (ED 9937), the
Organ Symphony No. 2
offers softer and more
mysterious (Marian) sound
worlds, sketching stages
of Mary's life: an
adoring Salve Regina
grows from the mystic
source, followed by
Berceuse pour Marie as a
lullaby of the Christmas
events. The third
movement Mater Dolorosa
falls back on the
well-known Gregorian
sequence Stabat Mater,
taking Mary's pain at the
cross as its central
theme. The finale treats
the Ave Maris Stella in a
crescendo from pp to ff
in a positive and solemn
manner, in memory of
Mary's assumption. It is
advisable to use an organ
with at least three
manuals. $24.99 - Voir plus => Acheter
