ch. Named after the
leaf displayed on
Canada’s flag,
Maple Leaf Overture
was composed
specifically to open a
Canadian school’s
symphonic band tour of
England. A short fanfare
during the overture
smoothly transitions to a
jazzy, syncopated
section. The main theme
is first played by the
horns and saxophones, and
then by the entire
ensemble. This lively
theme then alternates
with a slower second
theme, building momentum
before a brisk coda
culminates in a rousing
finale!
Maple Leaf

Sparke componeerde dit

voor hun rekening. Daarna
speelt het hele orkest
dit thema. Spanning
ontstaatwanneer het
snelle hoofdthema een
langzaam tweede deel
afwisselt. Daarna keert
het snelle hoofdthema
weer terug. Een snel coda
beëindigt de
ouverture. Maple Leaf

ch. Exultation is a
short and energetic
concert opener that is
similar to a palindrome.
A fanfare opens the work,
juxtaposing 3/4 and 6/8,
reminiscent of
Latin-American music. The
main theme is first heard
on the euphonium, horns
and saxophones which is
very bluesy. The
contrasting second theme
is short and spikey and
played by the bass
instruments of the band.
A lyric melody emerges as
the rest of the orchestra
joins in. The second
theme reappears which
leads back to the
‘blues’
melody, which leads back
to the opening fanfare.
Palindromic!
Exult
ation (Jubel) ist ein
kurzes, rhythmisch und
stilistisch
abwechslungsreiches
Eröffnungsstück,
das in seiner Form einem
Palindrom ähnelt: Nach
einer Fanfare in einem
fast lateinamerikanischen
Stil erscheint ein
bluesiges“
Hauptthema, das nach
einer kurzen
Ãœberleitung zu einem
zweiten Staccato-Thema
führt. Es folgt ein
lyrisches Thema, sodann
geht es
rückwärts wieder
zum Stacccato-Thema und
dann über die
Bluesmelodie“
zurück zur
Eröffnungsfanfare und
damit zum Anfang und Ende
zugleich!
Exultati
on est une oeuvre courte,
rythmée et
stylistiquement
variée. Sa structure
est b tie comme un
palindrome, autrement
dit, comme une forme
particulière
d’inversion.
L’oeuvre débute
avec une fanfare aux
accents
latino-américains
laquelle succèdent un
thème « bluesy
», une courte
transition, un second
thème staccato et une
mélodie lyrique. Puis
le fil s’enroule
pour revenir au début.
Musique ou symétrie ?
Telle est la question.
Exultation è
un breve brano di
apertura che offre
diversit ritmiche e
stilistiche e che nella
sua forma ricorda un
palindromo. Dopo una
fanfara in stile
latino-americano, appare
il tema principale
eseguito dagli eufoni,
dai corni e dai sax,
caratterizzato da accenti
di blues che accompagna
ad un seconda tema in
staccato. Segue un tema
lirico, prima di tornare
nuovamente al tema in
staccato e, attraverso
una “melodia
bluesâ€, nuovamente
alla fanfara di apertura
e alla fine del
brano. $23.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks | | |

They gave the first
performance in January

for a bright and breezy
march that the band could
use as their theme tune,
so Marcho Brioso
falls into the
composer’s series
of Broadway-style
marches, which includes
Slipstream, The
Bandwagon and
Jubiloso. After a
short introduction a solo
cornet plays the main
theme, accompanied by a
euphonium counter-melody.
A secondary phrase from
the horns and baritones
leads to a tutti version
of the main theme which
is followed by the
traditional
‘bass’
strain. A change of key
heralds thetrio section,
which features a
cantabile melody on
euphonium; this is then
taken up by the full band
after a short bridge
passage and further
change of key.This takes
us back to the home key
which sees a quiet
staccato version of the
main theme lead to a
recapitulation and a
short coda which brings
the march to a close.
