"La Cucaracha" is a traditional folk song which
originated in Spain. This type of song is known as a
"corrido" in Spanish. The song became popular during
the Mexican revolution which occurred from 1910-1920.
The title in English means "The Cockroach". There have
been many different versions of the lyrics, but the
earliest lyrics concern a cockroach which is struggling
to walk, due to it having lost one of its legs. In
subsequent versions there were often hidden political
meanings in the lyrics.<...(+)
