And "Do It" they did! Facing a major labor shortage in
1942, the Rosie the Riveter campaign would would fill
those jobs with women. Highly successful, women became
40% of the war production labor force. Over a four year
period they would produce a navy larger than all navies
combined today and a heavy bomber fleet twice the size
of today's worldwide commercial aviation fleet. The
Rosie theme and iconic poster were accompanied by an
equally catchy song:
