Added by jamieholdham, 28 May 2021 A excerpt of my Urtext edition score of my favourite work of Jan Dismas Zelenka; his Missa "Gratias agimus tibi", ZWV 13 in his catalogue of works. A excerpt of only the opening Kyrie movement; the longest and most developed of all sections of this Mass setting; with 2 distinct fugal sections introduced first with the text of the Kyrie, and a second subject with the text of the Christe eleison by the Sopranos and Altos; which Zelenka later combines both subjects in a brilliant manner that would make Bach himself amazed (of which he was a great admirer of Zelenka)... before finally returning to the opening Tutti motive introduced at the beginning in the string section to finish off the opening movement of this beautiful masterpiece. |
