The concerto was actually written during the months before the marriage ofMutter and Previn. It was premiered on March 14 2002 at Symphony Hall Boston. The composer's feelings and admiration for Mutter and the BSO come through in this expansively tuneful warm music. The piece reflects Previn's earlychildhood memories of Germany incorporating a German children's song in the third movement.
