It has been the first String quartet of at least two generations of String players.David Stone is a contemporary composer widely known for his works for student musicians and ensembles. He was a master at Charterhouse at one time a producer at the BBC and Music Director of the Godalming Operatic Society then Director of the School of Music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He began to compose works for young musicians when he found a dearth of suitable teaching material for his own students.
