True Fire was commissioned by the Los AngelesPhilharmonic Orchestra NDR Sinfonieorchester BBC Symphony Orchestra and Orchestre national de France. The composition is a setting of five texts three of which are from renowned transcendentalist poet Ralph Waldo Emerson'sSpiritual Laws. The other texts are Irish poet Seamus Heaney's 'The Spirit Level' Songs of the Tewa and a piece of writing by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. This beautiful workwas first performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on the 14th of May 2015.
