This edition takes the composer’s autograph as its principal source. Unlike previous editions Helga Schauerte-Maubouet has also drawn on a fragmentary handwritten errata list as a secondary source allowing her to verify Vierne’s late alterations to details in theautograph.Her foreword also sheds light on the biographical background and explains the work’s genesis in great detail. Using previously unpublished letters she has been able for the first time to provide exact dates for each movement.
