Manhattan nous emmène à New York le temps d un week-end. Le mouvement d ouverture Saturday Serenade baigne dans l atmosphère bluesy d un samedi soir probablement passé dans l ambiance feutrée et enfumée d un club de jazz. Avec Sunday Scherzo Philip Sparke illustre un jogging matinal dans Central Park. Ce second mouvement rythmiquement dynamique se conclut sur une coda encore plus vive qui mène l oeuvre vers une fin brillante.
