Nature was commissioned by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and the Oslo Sinfonietta. BCMG commission funds provided by Arts Council England the Britten-Pears Foundation and the BCMG’s Sound Investment Scheme. The first performance was given by Huw Watkins with the BCMG conducted by Oliver Knussen on 25 May 2012 at CBSO Centre Birmingham.
