The band takes its name from the county symbol of Yorkshire, the white rose. This partly rhythmic, partly lyrical piece opens with a flourish from the trumpets. Following a rhythmic melody in the clarinets are solo passages for flute and trumpet leading to the finale, which brings together elements of the whole piece.
