Cambini is credited with "inventing" the woodwind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon). In his turbulent life he composed a large number of chamber works as well as symphonies, concerti, and operas. This edition, believed to be the first since the undated original, was prepared from a set of period parts held in Paris and carefully corrects a great number of Cambini's copyist's inconsistencies in phrasing and articulation.
