One of the most joyful of all my compositions is how Heininen sums up his Violin Sonata. The work was written at the turn of the 1970's when Heininen was much engaged in writing chamber music for strings. Heininen cunningly combines opposites - intensity and playfulness, passion and lyricism - in a work not tinged by dry argument.
