Added by alastair-lewis, 27 Nov 2011 "He that shall endure to the end" is part of the oratorio Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn. This oratorio was written in English for the Birmingham Festival in 1846. The work depicts various events in the life of the prophet Elijah, taken from the books 1 Kings and 2 Kings in the Old Testament of the Bible. Mendelssohn was a great admirer of the Baroque composers Bach and Handel, and Elijah was inspired by these composers' works. However he mixed the Baroque styles, with the modern lyricism and use of orchestral and choral colour of the Romantic era. Sheet central : | Elijah (16 sheet music) | |
