Added by douglas-brooks-davies, 14 Jan 2014 Another delightfully exuberant and melodious kolenda (Christmas carol) arranged for SATB choir and piano (or organ) with English translation. Again, the translation is as accurate as I can make it while still echoing the stanza form of the original. It seems customary these days for Polish choirs to sing only the first two stanzas of the original five. While these clearly fit the melody’s joyful nature, I have included a third (originally stanza 4), because it strikes me that the opening ascending quaver figure probably alludes to the ’hastening shepherds’ of that stanza (as in the kolenda ’Shepherds Came to Bethlehem’). Once again, I hope that this translation and arrangement will enable this carol to become wider known to English-speaking choirs and audiences. |
The correct title is "Z nieba wysokiego" (from the high heaven). |
