From Symphony No. 1, "Divertimento," the 2nd movement "Meditation (Elegy)" features cello and oboe solos. The brief and solemn introduction was an afterthought (as was the coda) added to establish the 5/4 meter before the cello begins its parlando song; it is drawn from a countermelody that occurs when the orchestra takes up the main tune.
