Valentin Haussmann [also Haußmann or Hausmann] (c.1560 - c.1614) was a German composer. He was the son of the musician Valentin Haussmann (* 1484 in Nuremberg around 1560 in Gerbstedt), a friend of Martin Luther and Johann Walter . There is no information about his early life and musical education. Until 1609 Haussmann was organist and councilor in Gerbstedt.

With editions of Italian song compositions in German and his own “sociable” compositions, he made a decisive contribution to the spread of Italian music in Germany and made an early contribution to instrumental music (Neue Intrade, 1604). He also created some works of sacred music.

With his orchestral dance movements printed in 1598, he was the first actual instrumental composer in Germany. At first he did not have a permanent position, but traveled around the country as a freelance “musicus”. It was not until 1590 that he got a job as organist in his hometown, where he was also councilor at that time.

Its exact date of death is still unclear today, but it must be 1614 or shortly before. This follows from the fact that the second publication of Johann Jeep's Student Garden , which was published this year, contains a composition about his death.

Although originally composed for Chorus (SATTB), I created this Interpretation of the Pavane & Galliard on 'Go from my Window' for Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, English Horn, French Horn & Bassoon).
