Added by magataganm, 11 Jun 2024 Gaspare Gabellone, also Caballone, Cabelone, Gabbelone and Gabaldone (1727 – 1796), was an Italian composer, son of Michele Caballone. The difference in the surname from his father Caballone is due to Gaspare's preference in using the Gabellone variant to identify himself. He studied music starting in 1738 at the Conservatory of Santa Maria di Loreto in Naples, where he studied singing and composition under the teaching of Francesco Durante. He began working as an opera composer starting in 1757, composing and staging some comic operas at the Teatro Nuovo in the Neapolitan city. From 1780 he devoted himself exclusively to the composition of sacred music, a genre in which he acquired considerable success among his contemporaries. Among his other works that are remembered there is certainly the soprano cantata Qui del Sebeto in riva, composed in 1769 to celebrate the birthday of Queen Carolina. Although originally composed for Mandolin & Strings, I created this Arrangement of the Concerto in F Major (Gimo 88) for String Quartet (2 Violins, Viola & Cello). |
