The song was based on an earlier piano piece, Sunset Promenade, which I had composed extolling the pleasures of strolling on the beach while eating gelato. However, this is not at all how Richard interpreted it. He heard a bluesy number about a woman who needs to keep her man on a shorter leash, and voila: Baby Please Come Home.
