I ran across this hymn in a 1938 copy of The Cokesbury
Hymnal while I was arranging Rise, Crowned with Light
to finish up the classical hymns collection (this was
on the previous page). Never heard it before, and
hymnary.org didn't even have it listed under its title,
but if you like A New Name in Glory, Dwelling in Beulah
Land, and Still Sweeter Every Day, then you'll
definitely enjoy this hymn from the same author! The
words are as follows:
Love, Mercy, and Grace

Love, Mercy, and Grace
1. ‘Twas Love that gave at greatest cost
A Life, that mine should not be lost.
The Love that died in deep despair
My debt fully satisfied there.
2. The love that freely all forgives
In fullness now within me lives;
Thro’ ev’ry trial this I see;
His grace is sufficient for me.
3. God’s love, His mercy, and His grace,
Combine to raise a fallen race;
His hand is ready ere we call,
Held out with forgiveness for all.
Chorus: It was Love (It was Love) that took my place
(that took my place)
On the cross of Calvary (the cross of Calvary);
It was grace (It was grace), redeeming grace (redeeming
grace),
That paid my ransom full and free.
Over sin (over sin), without, within (without,
within),
I have the victory (I have the victory, I have the
victory),
Thro’ grace (thro’ grace), marvelous grace
(marvelous grace), that lives in me.
