Added by magataganm, 11 Jan 2021 Thomas Babou, born in Liège, Belgium, on February 12, 1656, died in Liège around 1740 is a Liège organist and composer. Very little is known about him at the moment. He was organist at the Collegiate Church of Saint John the Evangelist of Liège,at least from 1687 until 1726. His son, Jean-François-Pascal(1700-1767), was also organist at the collegiate (from 1726 to 1767), practised as a notary, and was secretary of the chapter of St. John from 1742. He is probably owed a copy of an organ book, kept in the library of the Conservatory of Liège, containing several pieces "by Monsieur Babou", dated 1709 and 1710. Their brilliant and mundane style oscillates between Italian and French influences at Le Bègue, and can in many cases be suitable for harpsichord.
