Added by dereksheldon, 07 Oct 2023 Thomas Hardy's poem describes the autumn fair at Pummery (Poundbury). Thousands of sheep are auctioned, but in torrential rain. In the third verse, the fair is many years in the past, and the poet looks back to reconsider the whole event. My new music sets the evocative poem as a song. It includes a melody for the low D whistle to give an interlude before the last verse. |
You certainly captured the gloom. Very nice vocal. dereksheldon , 09 Oct 2023 at 18:12 ↪ Thanks for your nice comment. The tune actually came to me as I was reading the poem, so I felt obliged to complete it! An enjoyable experience. |
