Part of Alfred's Recital Suite Series, Suite Sounds Around the Finger Lakes explores the central region of New York State. Each of the three movements depicts different aspects of the area. In 'The Wondrous Finger Lakes,' students will create the effect of lightly rippling water in the left-hand accompaniment as the right hand plays a lyrical melody. The second movement, 'Hoops Victory: Go Orange!' recreates the excitement of a Syracuse University basketball game, complete with an opening fanfare of rhythmic chords followed by the sound of a dribbling basketball, created using repeated staccato notes. The suite is completed with 'Syracuse Snowfall,' the musical version of gently falling snow that turns into a snow storm, created using delicate broken chords that become lively and brisk triplets. / Piano

This early-intermediate solo is a delight to play and to hear! Written in A minor and 3/4 meter, this piece includes multiple changes between A minor and E major chords. Patterns are simple, easy to remember, and repeat throughout the piece in different registers. Dynamic contrasts create echo effects, and a D. S. al Coda allows the student to play the exciting middle section a second time. / Piano

The stateliness of a sarabande is portrayed elegantly in this A minor solo. The left hand is an excellent study in blocked chords. The right-hand melody must be projected over these chords throughout. In A-B-A form, the left hand remains the same throughout. However, the melody in the B section is one octave higher and an embellished variation of the original theme. The return to A is followed by an eight-measure coda, creating a lovely dance in Baroque style. / Piano
