Score-The Hebraic Rhapsody for cello and orchestra 'Schelomo' is the best-known work of Ernst Bloch's 'Jewish Cycle.' Bloch explains:

Ernest Bloch (1880-1959) was a Swiss-born Jewish composer. Schelomo: Rhapsodie Hébra que was the last and best known works of his Jewish Cycle in which he attempted to find some sort of musical identity - the Jewish state having not yet come into existence when he was writing. The solo Cello is intended to represent the voice of King Solomon while the orchestral accompaniment is often seen to express Solomon?s hidden thoughts. This edition has had the accompaniment transcribed for the Piano and includes a separate score for the Cello part.

Ernest Bloch's Sonata For Violin And Piano is a challenging but extremely rewarding work. The first movement's tempo marking is Agiatato and the music is in turn turbulent and aggressive passionate and sorrowful but the prevailing mood is one of grave disquiet. The sense of unrest continues in the second movement although it is marked Molto quieto)and is mostly contemplative by nature. The last movement marked Moderato begins with the tolling of bells in the piano part. The violin is assertive although less aggressive than it was in the first movement. A tender epilogue follows this and dies away peacefully bringing the work to its conclusion.
