The first performance was given by the Endellioon Quartet in the West Road Concert Hall Cambridge as part of the Cambridge Elgar Festival on 16 November 1994.

Thomas Ades' Chamber Symphony Op.2 was first performed on the 24th February 1991 in Cambridge at the West Road Concert Hall. It was performed by the Contemporary Music Festival Ensemble for the Cambridge Festival of Contemporary Music conducted by the composer himself. Chamber Symphony Op.2 is a written for a chamber orchestra consisting of fifteen players.

Thomas Ades' Life Story Op.8 (1993) is based on an extract from In The Winter Of Cities by Tenesse Williams. This is the 1994 version for Soprano and Piano and is based upon the original score for two Bass Clarinets and Double Bass. THis version for vocie and piano irst performed by Sarah Leonard and Rodney Bennett at the Warwick Festival on 8th July 1994.

This piece is an explosion of John Dowland's lute song In Darkness Let Mee Dwell (1610). The first performance of Darkness Visible was given by the composer at the Recital Hall Franz Liszt's house Budapest in October 1992.

Thomas Adès composed the score for the 2019 film Colette starring Keira Knightley and Dominic West which is based on the life of the French novelist Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. The film explores her fight for creative ownership and resistance to the societal constraints of the early 20th century. The solo piano piece Souvenir appears in the end credits played by the composer himself.

The first performance of 'Traced Overhead' was given by Imogen Cooper at the Pittville Pump Room as part of the Cheltenham International Festival of Music on 20 July 1996.

Opera in 3 acts Text: Meredith Oakes after Shakespeare-The opera The Tempest is inspired by Shakespeareâ??s play rather than literally being based on every aspect of it. There are key images from the play as well as new material. From among the playâ??s many themes and possible interpretations the opera focusses on the difficulty and the necessity of mercy. The libretto uses contemporary vocabulary. Its lines are short rhythmic and rhymed or semi-rhymed echoing Shakespeareâ??s strophic songs more than his blank verse. This choice reflects the playâ??s magical ritual childlike elements and acknowledges the traditional power of incantation in song. The operatic Prospero is the passionately vengeful man seen in the play more than the wise disconnected actor also seen there.
