The work was commissioned by and dedicated to Gerry Pagano and the St. Louis Low Brass Collective, with its first performance on January 20, 2015 at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis. The work is in a contemporary style and is about 11 minutes in length, appropriate for virtuoso performers. The work has many different effects, sounds and contrasts. Let Us Rejoice (translation from Hebrew) is a traditional Jewish song that has become a staple at all Jewish celebrations. Since being introduced to the rest of the world in April 1959 by Harry Balafonte at Carnegie Hall it has grown in popularity to be a mega-hit, played everywhere, by everyone! The song's origins are from the Ukraine and words were added in 1918 by Israeli musicologist Abraham Idelsohn. Jeremy Kempton has now arranged this iconic song for Trombone Quartet .... and ... it is kosher for it to be played at occasions other than weddings and Bar Mitzvahs!! Lisa Albrecht’s beautiful arrangement for Trombone quartet is based on the 1837 setting by Robert Pearsall, the one of the favored by many choirs and their organists. The melody was so popular that many composers have tried their hand at arranging it including Buxtehude, Bach, Liszt and Dello Joio. This arrangement of about 3 minutes can be performed by intermediate to advanced players. Trombone I is in tenor clef and the rest of the parts are in bass clef and can be performed by intermediate level players.

The Gladiator is an early work by John Philip Sousa, written in 1886 while he was leader of the US Marine Band. The Gladiator was written as a tribute to Charles B. Towle, a journalist at the Boston Traveler. The journalist introduced him to the Knights Templar. There is speculation about the origins of the march's name. Sousa had not written many marches before that, and none of them received great popularity. The Gladiator, however, sold over a million copies - a record for the time and it was soon performed frequently. It follows the traditional march style of the period. Although marches such as Semper Fidelis, The Washington Post, Stars and Stripes Forever and Hands Across the Sea have achieved greater popularity, the Gladiator is still regarded as John Philip Sousa's first success.
