String Orchestra - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by trad. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, European, Patriotic. Score, Set of Parts. 10 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? They are ALL in my store! All my anthem arrangements are also available for Orchestra, Recorders, Saxophones, Wind, Brass and Flexible band. If you need an anthem urgently for an instrumentation not in my store, let me know via e-mail, and I will arrange it for you FOC if possible! keithterrett@gmail.com<br> <br> Contact Publisher Related Scores

Cello Ensemble - Advanced - Digital Download Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Arranged by Joe Procopio. Romantic Period, Classical Period. Set of Parts. 47 pages. Published by JoeCopio Music LLC
THE BEETHOVEN DUETS FOR VIOLONCELLO By Joe Procopio The Beethoven Duets by Joe Procopio is a collection of duets that artist -composer Joe Procopio has adapted and arranged from the 9 Scherzi found in Ludwig van Beethoven’s 9 Symphonies. These duets are unique. They can be performed as a duet for Cello I and Cello II and as a Cello ensemble in groups of 2, 4, 6, 8, etc. Each Scherzo is published for many other orchestral instruments. They are published individually for each instrument; in a Three Volume Collection with 3 Scherzi in each volume; and in a Complete Collection containing all three volumes.Volume One has Scherzo No.1, Scherzo No. 2 and Scherzo No.3. Volume Two has Scherzo No.4, Scherzo No 5 and Scherzo No.6.Volume Three has Scherzo No.7, Scherzo No.8 and Scherzo No.9.The Complete Collection has all 3 Volumes for each instrument with all 9 Scherzi. What’s more they will soon be published in the Procopio PlayAlong Music Program. This is an exclusive MP3 music audio program personally designed and developed in which Player 1 plays along with a music audio track for Player 2.“To be sure, The Beethoven Scherzi Duets for Violoncello are a marvel of Beethoven’s skill with sections reaching the sublime. It is my deep felt personal belief that these Scherzi will bring you great pleasure and long lasting satisfaction.” Joe ProcopioAN INTRODUCTION TO THE BEETHOVEN DUETS By Joe ProcopioBecause of the complexities, range and sonorities inherent in all of the Beethoven Symphonies, it may seem impossible to transcribe any one movement as a duet that is true to the composer. Nevertheless, I believe these duets contain the heart, soul and essence of Beethoven’s melodies, rhythms and expressions; even though these works are tiny when they are compared to the Master’s great musical creations which have no equal. In fact, there is no comparison. However, my sincere hope is that since I have rendered some of Beethoven’s music as duets, his music is now more readily available to all permitting a greater number of musicians and all the people who hear their performances to come to know and love a bit of the world’s most valuable, breathtaking and beautiful music. In truth, Beethoven’s music has stood the test of time. He astonished people in his day whenever he performed his music or had his music played. He still does today. To be sure, his music has enhanced and enriched the lives of many of us for over 200 years. In performing and listening to these Scherzi you will find the whole of each work a marvel of Beethoven’s skill with sections reaching the sublime. Few composers have been able to write down on paper music of such incredible beauty that it reflects the awesome splendor of God’s creation. What comes to mind immediately is Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony No. 6. It has been said, that much of his music mirrors not only the magnificence of God’s creation but also the radiance of God the Creator himself. In any event, this music is simply amazing and awe-inspiring. A joy to listen to and to play. I know and can safely say without any hesitation or reservations that this collection will bring you much enjoyment.

Published by Diamond S Music (A0.790211). SILENT NIGHT (Stille Nacht) for CELLO DUET. Silent Night is one of the most beloved and well known of all holidays carols. Written in 1818 by Franz Gruber and Joseph Moore for the Christmas Eve Service for just guitar accompaniment as the organ had been damaged by flooding. This 2-part arrangement unaccompanied is very simply set with a bit of a folk feeling or atleast influence. It contains cross voicing where sometimes the counter line is above the melody and the melody is shared by both voices. This arrangement contains 3 verses, the final verse modulates to a new key and is a delicate end to this beautiful arrangement. This arrangement is appropriate for most settings: church services, concerts, events, parties or just entertaining friends and family.Other similar arrangements and selections from DIAMOND S MUSIC available at:https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/diamond-s-music/6940

Published by David McKeown (A0.592201). Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Cellos. Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is one in a series of ten Halloween-themed duets each presenting a portrait of a different Halloween character. All ten can be bought together in one collection by searching for 10 Spooky Halloween Duets for Cello.Back in Ancient Egypt, Mimi always turned heads with her blonde hair and fashion sense. She made her fortune in a pyramid selling scheme and acquired Joseph’s Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at a charity auction. When she choked on a locust her friends tore up the coat and used it in the mummification process instead of the usual white bandages. So three thousand years later Mimi still dresses in style. Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible keys and range balanced by some fast passages. With a playing-time of around four minutes, Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. String Quartet Cello,String Quartet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1266472 Composed by Solage. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Chamber,Contest,Early Music,Festival,Historic,Medieval. 8 pages. Jmsgu3 #859203. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1266472). Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work in the history of medieval music. Here are some of its historical significances:1. It is one of the twelve surviving works attributed to Solage, a French composer who lived in the late 14th century. Solage's works are known for their complex rhythms, intricate harmonies, and expressive melodies.2. Le basile de sa propre nature is a four-voice ballade that features a text about the mythical creature known as the basilisk. The lyrics describe the basilisk as a monster that kills everything it sees with its deadly venom. The music is characterized by its intricate rhythms and harmonies, which reflect the text's vivid imagery.3. The ballade is preserved in the Chantilly Codex, a manuscript that contains a collection of French secular music from the late 14th century. The Chantilly Codex is one of the most important sources of medieval music, and it provides valuable insights into the musical practices of the time.4.Le basile de sa propre nature is an example of the Ars subtilior style, which was a highly experimental and complex musical style that emerged in the late 14th century. This style was characterized by its use of intricate rhythms, complex harmonies, and unusual notational practices. The Ars subtilior style was highly influential in the development of later musical styles, and it remains an important part of the medieval musical canon.Overall, Solage's ballade Le basile de sa propre nature is a significant work that reflects the complex and experimental musical practices of the late 14th century. Its vivid imagery, intricate rhythms, and complex harmonies make it a valuable contribution to the medieval musical canon.Lyrics:All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. He is a monster of great power,And he is feared by all who know him.He is a creature of the earth,And he is a master of death. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly. He is a creature of the night,And he is a master of the dark.He is a monster of great might,And he is feared by all who hear his name. He is a basilisk by his own nature,And he has no other way of being. All those he sees he kills suddenly,For his venom is deadly.Solage was a French composer and probably also a poet who lived in the late 14th century. He composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior, a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the century. Solage is an obscure composer, and aside from what can be deduced from the pieces attributed to him in the Chantilly Codex, nothing else is known about him. There are several interpretations of his name, and it is not clear whether his first name was Jean or Charles. The ars subtilior was a manneristic compositional school centered on Avignon at the end of the 14th century. It was characterized by complex rhythms and pitch, and it was a transitional period between the late medieval and Renaissance periods. Solage was one of the composers who fit into this school, and he composed the most pieces in the Chantilly Codex, which is the principal source of music of the ars subtilior. Stylistically, Solage's works exhibit two distinctly different characters: a relatively simple one usually associated with his great predecessor and elder contemporary Guillaume de Machaut, and a more recherché one, complex in the areas of both pitch and rhythm, characteristic of the ars subtilior.Â

Bassoon, cello and piano - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q6353 Composed by Benjamin Schweitzer. This edition: performance score. Downloadable, performance score. Duration 13 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q6353. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q6353). Nausea (lat., seasickness, disgust) – Nenia (greek/lat., folksong, elegy, magical song): Two similar sounding terms, which offer, based on their ambiguity, lots of space to musical connotations. These subtitles of the two movements refer to a background idea of the piece – to bring musical gestures of anger on the one, mourning and desperation on the other hand together as close as possible. In both cases there are drudgingly dragged blocks of sound, circulating crumbles of motives, melodic fragments sometimes even reduced to single notes…. Nevertheless, in the end we can still hear an expanded relict of a drifty chant. Benjamin Schweitzer.

Cello Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1358007 Composed by Traditional and Beethoven. Arranged by Aaron Sinnett. 19th Century,Children,Classical,Instructional,Traditional. Individual part. 8 pages. Aaron Sinnett #942515. Published by Aaron Sinnett (A0.1358007). Note reading in music can be challenging. The little black dots sitting in the midst of 5 horizontal lines can blur together after a time. This method uses colors to help one quickly identify which string you should be playing on. Even if you are still not very quick to name the notes, learning to group the notes according to string can make that naming game a little simpler. In use are four colors. They represent the four strings on the cello: A, D, G, C. This method can be very informative. Rather than struggle week after week with the same slow results, try this color-coded strategy. There are three familiar tunes in this download. Mary Had a Little Lamb (this one tends to be straight forward enough that every student can play it in a matter of half a lesson), Ode to Joy (by: Beethoven), and Are You Sleeping?. They are organized with increasing amounts of string crossings. This creates the need to remember, more fluidly, which string any given note should be played on. The price is low to encourage you to give it a try. Think of it this way, if you were to get private lessons, it would likely take several lessons to get this information and you only have your memory. Now, you are only a click or so away to having the same information in a PDF that you can refer to again and again.

Cello Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1457605 By Motley Crue. By Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee. Arranged by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee. Pop,Rock,Wedding. Individual part. 2 pages. Sarah Cellobat Chaffee #1036634. Published by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee (A0.1457605). Although hair metal band Mötley Crüe is best known for their rock anthems about girls and motorcycles, a standout moment of their discography is the (slightly) more sentimental power ballad Home Sweet Home. Released in 1985, the song opens with a catchy piano line and lyrics describing the singer's desire to come home and make things right with his significant other. Even though the epic guitar solo later in the song preserves the band's signature hard rock feel, this is still a popular request to this day for weddings and events, and you'll definitely have fun playing this Cellobat version for solo cello! Originally written for a wedding ceremony, this chart maintains the lyrical verses, hard-hitting choruses, and even the guitar solo of the original (although it is somewhat truncated, since the original solo is almost a full minute long!). Rated advanced-intermediate for some tenor clef and higher notes (not quite up to thumb position, but as high as 6th); this will be playable for more advanced students and sightreadable for professionals.Sarah “Cellobat” Chaffee is an in-demand acoustic & electric cellist and string arranger. You may have seen her onstage with legendary rock band Aerosmith as the cellist for their “Deuces Are Wild” residency, playing more than 50 sold-out shows with the Bad Boys from Boston; she is also the principal cellist for the Raiders House Band, playing for a crowd of 60,000 at all of the team's home games. She also plays and tours with many other world-renowned groups including the Femmes of Rock, Premiere Wedding Music, Bella Electric Strings, and David Perrico’s Pop Strings Orchestra. Sarah has made a number of TV appearances including the Billboard Music Awards, the Latin Grammy Awards, the iHeartRadio Music Festival, and the CBS reality show “Love Island”; she also played with Michael Bublé for his sold-out Resorts World residency and appeared with him on the Kelly Clarkson Show. Sarah has performed and recorded with a number of other artists including Disturbed, Mötley Crüe, Celine Dion, Halsey, Dionne Warwick, Sarah Brightman, and Sammy Hagar.Sarah is also an acclaimed string arranger with hundreds of arrangements published on Sheet Music Plus under her own label, Cellobat Charts. She is the exclusive arranger for several award-winning wedding and event companies across the United States, including Premiere Wedding Music, Las Vegas Music Oasis, and Impulse Strings, and she has created custom arrangements for many other ensembles worldwide. Cello and piano - intermediate to advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q53296 Composed by Jules de Swert. Edited by Beverley Ellis and Rainer Mohrs. This edition: Sheet music. (c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. Op. posth. 9 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53296. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53296). English • German.Belgian cellist Jules de Swert was born on 15.8.1843 in Leuven; he died in Ostend on 24.2.1891. His first cello lessons were with his father in Leuven, then from 1856 to 1858 he studied with Adrien Francois Servais in Brussels. Immediately after completing his studies he embarked on a very successful concert tour across Denmark, Sweden and Germany. He then found employment in Düsseldorf, Weimar – and Berlin, where he was Director of Music at court and teacher at the Academy of Music. In Vienna he was then appointed principal cellist at the Imperial Opera and professor at the Vienna Conservatoire. In 1888 de Sweet returned to Belgium, where besides teaching at Conservatoires in Ghent and Bruges he also worked as a conductor. Despite his busy concert schedule and teaching commitments, Jules de Swert still found time for composition. Alongside original pieces for cello and piano as well as transcriptions (particularly of works by Chopin) he composed two cello concertos, several orchestral works and operas. This transcription of Chopin’s Valse in E minor was published in 1876 (plate no. 22003).

Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1103564). Instrumental Duo based on my setting of Marie Keyser's Poem La Tour de Hölderlin Elle est près du fleuve dormeur debout mais le saule incliné toucherait de sa cîme l'eau L'église vieille dit les heures de l'île où la nuit descend Je la vois encore son toit de gris dans le gris de l'eau. pressens dans la tour de bois ma demeure la folie la folie le silence clos clos vigilance Oh Ne pas altérer ce qui reste qui reste, et le doit. Was bleibt aber stiften die Dichter. (It stands by the sleepy river But the bending willow would touch the water with its very top The church - an old church - tells the hours from the island where the night descends I can still see it, its grey roof in the grey of the water I have a presentiment in the tower of wood, of my dwelling place, of madness, of silence Closed in, closed in but keeping watch Oh never change what remains and should remain Was bleibt aber stiften die Dichter.....) [What remains, however, is the stuff of poetry This quote from Hölderlin himself is reflected in the second cello at bars 43 to 45] Performed by Ölveti Mátyás and Mády-Szabó Eszter of Budapest Scoring Cellos.

Cello,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1281505 Composed by David Popper. Arranged by David Popper. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Score and part. 53 pages. Paladino Editions #872845. Published by Paladino Editions (A0.1281505). Op. 16bis is Popper’s own arrangement of his Suite for Two Violoncellos, Op. 16. It is infectious, vibrant and dazzling music well within the grasp of any advanced cello student, and a must for professionals. Performers can read from clean, newly typeset parts with either Popper’s own original bowings and fingerings or modern performance directions by Alexander Hülshoff. The suite comprises five movements that progress through popular dance types and character pieces. It incorporates for the first time, as Popper intended, his Tempo di Marcia as a simpler but still compelling alternative finale.

Cello Solo - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.900284 By Taylor Swift. By Max Martin, Shellback, and Taylor Swift. Arranged by Liz Lee-Cellomoji. Pop. Individual part. 4 pages. Cellomoji #3531301. Published by Cellomoji (A0.900284). This is the cello transcription for 22 by Taylor Swift. It is written in the original key off of the album RED. I made this into an easier version so that beginners can play all the notes since it is written mainly in first position. It would be good for the player to feel comfortable with a G major scale. Even though the range of the notes is lower than in the recording I still recommend playing with the recording because it is more fun and it will help keep you in time. Cello,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.586424 By Carolina Gaitan, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy. By Lin-Manuel Miranda. Arranged by Martin Lass. Broadway,Hip-Hop,Latin,Musical/Show,Pop,R & B. Score and part. 9 pages. MA Lass & I Lass #195713. Published by MA Lass & I Lass (A0.586424). In this Level 2.5 (Intermediate) arrangement, Martin Lass has arranged the hit song, We Don't Talk About Bruno, for solo cello and piano accompaniment. Guitar chords and chord boxes are included. We Don't Talk About Bruno is a song from Disney's 2021 animated feature film, Encanto, with music and lyrics written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It was released by Walt Disney Records as part of the film's soundtrack in November, 2021. It has achieved many accolades and charted No. 1 or Top Ten across the world, including No. 1 on US Billboard Hot 100. Wikipedia notes that, musically, We Don't Talk About Bruno eschews Disney's traditional formula of a sentimental ballad performed by a solo character, opting for a subdued, mid-tempo tune blending Latin music styles such as salsa and guajira with pop, hip hop, dance and Broadway elements, sung by an ensemble and climaxing in a polyphonic outro. This arrangement has been specifically tailored for intermediate-level cello while retaining all of the original elements of the song, as well as some original interpretative elements. The lead line combines some of the different voices in the original song. The key have been changed from the original C minor to the more cello-friendly G minor.
