The full score is available separately. Originally conceived as a work titled Nocturno for an 11-piece Harmonie in 1824, Mendelssohn revised the work for a full 24-piece wind ensemble in 1838. In a letter to his publisher Simrock, Mendelssohn mentions a version for strings but nothing more is known about whether or not Mendelssohn ever made that version. This 2016 transcription for full orchestra by conductor & arranger Yoon Jae Lee now makes this exuberant overture accessible to orchestras worldwide. The trombone parts are ad lib. This overture would make a lively concert opener for a group with smaller forces, or work just as well with a large string section. In the opera itself (Il re pastore, The Shepherd King; 1775), Mozart's overture  segues directly into the opening scene of Act One. Other Mozart overtures that segue thusly have been arranged with concert endings, such as The Abduction from the Seraglio (arr. Anton Andre) and Idomeneo, King of Crete (arr. Carl Reinecke). Most of the music contained in this arrangement is Mozart's, including the existing material from the original overture, developmental material of that music, and a segment extracted from the opera's final section. The work is about six minutes in length and is scored for one flute, two oboes, two bassoons, two horns in F, two trumpets in C, timpani, and string orchestra. A NotePerformer3 audio file is available from the arranger, as are parts in pdf format. Key: C major.Right at the beginning of the overture, Telemann comes up with a surprising idea. After the -„bare entry of the wind section, the string tutti do not join in the playing until the third bar. The „harlequinade often appearing in Telemann’s overture suites obtains its attraction not least from syncopes and from a permanent change of tone colour. The „Espagniol whose title prom-ises a bit of urbanity turns out to be a saraband, the „Bourrée en Trompette justifies its name by the tone repetitions typical of trumpet music. In the context of the whole, the „Sommeille, a harmonically unusual movement in C minor, is almost a piece across the border. Even in this gently rocking piece, Telemann is not at a loss for unobtrusive wit when he lets the upper parts die down shortly before the end, only a single bass tone represents the last chord.

Score and parts of a premiere realization of some of Beethoven's sketches for the first movement of another Symphony in C major before the First, dubbed 'No. 0' or Unv. 2 by some: 1. 'Overture' (Andante con moto - Allegro con brio), 2. Tempo di menuetto. Useful for people interested in Beethoven's sketches and for students of the Classical style. In 1794-1796, Beethoven made extensive concept sketches mostly for the first movement of this abortive symphony. The material is abundant and sometimes contradictory, as usual with his preliminary work, and he recycled later from this one only the main theme of the Finale of the completed Symphony No. 1. For this speculative realization, suggested by Mr. Armando Orlandi at the Centro Ricerche Musicali and dedicated to them, only the more promising sketches were utilized, and the slow introduction was assembled from the ones in cut time, while those in triple time make up now a Minuet. Virtually every bar of music here includes the sketches, also in the elaboration and coda of the 'overture', only with a few transpositions needed for assembling the sonata form and for the repeats in the Minuet. Obviously, Beethoven would have done it much differently, had he decided to continue working on this symphony, and the question remains regarding the utility of recycling material abandoned by some classical composer. However, this gives one an approximate idea of one of the many possibilities implied by the preliminary sketches for his Symphony 'No. 0'. Total duration 15 minutes. The original instrumentation was for a large wind band of over 60 musicians. Since then it has been scored for many different ensembles. Steven Gamble has scored this wonderful Overture of about 9 minutes in length for advanced level brass quintet: 2 Trumpets in C (part for Piccolo Trumpet in A is included), Horn, Trombone, Tuba or Bass Trombone. The music is scored in the key of C, down a step from the original.

Les petits riens (French for The Little Nothings) is a ballet in one act and three tableaux by Jean-Georges Noverre, with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and other unknown composers, possibly including François-Joseph Gossec[citation needed], first performed at the Academie Royale de Music in Paris on 11 June 1778.While Mozart was staying in Paris, Noverre asked him to compose a new score for a ballet that he had created in Vienna in 1767. The ballet was to be danced as an interlude in the new opera Le finte gemelle by Niccolò Piccinni.[1] The opera was a flop and closed after four performances. Although the ballet music was well-received,[2] Mozart was not credited with it, and he was at the time little-known in Paris.This arrangement for wind dectet and bass is the Overture.Horn parts are for natural horns in C bassoThe score, catalogued as K. 299b, was thought lost, but it was rediscovered in the Paris Opera's archives in the late 19th century[1] and has since entered both the ballet and symphonic repertoire.
