Instrumental Duet Contrabassoon,Instrumental Duet - Level 2 - SKU: A0.612801 Composed by Jean Baptiste Loeillet of Ghent (1688 – 1720). Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Standards,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 59 pages. Jmsgu3 #221995. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.612801). John Baptist Loeillet, a Flemish Baroque composer, wrote six sonatas for flute and basso continuo in his Op. 5 No. 2. This work is widely considered to be some of his most significant compositions, and they are still performed today. The sonatas are divided into three movements each, with two slow movements and one faster one. The flute part is very demanding, as Loeillet often wrote in the high register, and the accompanying basso continuo part provides a solid foundation for the piece. The music has an emotional intensity that was characteristic of the Baroque era, and it features various ornamentations, like trills and mordents. The influence of Corelli can be heard in the contrapuntal textures, and the melodic lines are often based on the scales and modes of the period.Loeillet's Op. 5 No. 2 is a beautiful and captivating work, and its timelessness is a testament to its quality. It has been transcribed and adapted for other instruments, and it remains a popular choice for many classical musicians.Contents:Sonata No. 1 Duration: 9:45 Score: 8 pages 1. Vivace 2. Baroque,Classical,Contest,Festival,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #686455. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1082305). Sammartini Op. 1 No. 2 Sonata. Score: 6 pages. Duration: 8:13 I. Andante II. Allegro III. Minuet/GraziosoGiuseppe Sammartini was an Italian composer, oboist, and organist who lived during the Baroque era. He is credited with helping to establish the form of the modern concerto grosso, which would become an important part of the development of classical chamber music. Sammartini wrote many solo and chamber pieces, including sonatas, trios, and concertos. His style is considered to be very graceful and expressive, and his works often contain virtuosic passages.Sammartini's influence on the history of classical chamber music is significant. His compositions demonstrate the shift from the Baroque to the Classical style, and his works served as a bridge between the two periods. His chamber music was often praised by his contemporaries, and he was one of the first composers to use a modern concerto grosso form. Sammartini's influence is also evident in the works of later composers such as Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. His legacy can be seen in the music of many contemporary classical chamber music ensembles.

Woodwind Ensemble Contrabassoon,English Horn,Oboe - Level 2 - SKU: A0.549212 Composed by Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. 59 pages. Jmsgu3 #3465004. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549212). A musical monument: the first composition to employ dynamics. Instrumentation: 3 oboes, 3 English horns, 2 bassoons, 1 contrabassoon. Arranged in two antiphonal choirs. Full Score: 27 pg. 81 ms 4/2, Study Score: 14 pg., Instrumental parts: 2 pg. Duration: 3:45 at half-note = 86.  Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He therefore developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo. Â

Large Ensemble Contrabassoon,English Horn,Flute,Oboe,Piccolo - SKU: A0.1047895 By Richard Byrnes. By Johannes Brahms. Arranged by Richard Byrnes. Romantic Period. Score and parts. 92 pages. Richard Byrnes #652340. Published by Richard Byrnes (A0.1047895). Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer who crafted his works using the techniques of musical counterpoint within traditional forms. Within those strictures he created many beautiful and powerful works. Barely 20 years old, Brahms wrote this in 1853. It is the second of five movements. Being his last piano sonata, it is his biggest solo piano work. This movement begins with a quotation from a poem by Otto Inkermann: Through evening's shade, the pale moon gleams While rapt in love's ecstatic dreams Two hearts are fondly beating. This is an arrangement by Richard Byrnes for Piccolo, 3 Oboes, 2 English Horns, 4 Bassoons, & 2 Contrabassoons. In addition to works by Brahms, we offer works by J.S. Bach, Debussy, Fauré, Glinka, Gottschalk, Granados, Griffes, Lotti, Mozart, Ravel, Richard Strauss, and Turina.

Romantic Period. 92 pages. Richard Byrnes #652969. Published by Richard Byrnes (A0.1048563).  Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was a German composer who crafted his works using the techniques of musical counterpoint within traditional forms. Woodwind Ensemble Bassoon,English Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549199 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Renaissance,Standards. 42 pages. Jmsgu3 #3458615. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549199). Giovanni Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo (Ch. 136). Instrumentation: 4 oboes, 2 English horns, 2 bassoons, 1 contrabassoon (or 3 bassoons). Duration: 3:00, cut time 4/2 at half-note = 96, 71 ms. Score: 24 pg. parts: 2 pg. Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony, and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this either at the beginning to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not difficult but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements which seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in-balance. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it by sequential choral entrances.
