It is sure to be a popular addition to your violin recital, or it would make an excellent encore piece. The music lies easily under the hand and the top note is B just above the treble staff.  The standard is about ABRSM violin Grade 3-4 (UK). The duration is 03:55. As with most folk songs, there are many different versions of Shenandoah, and it’s impossible to determine the song’s exact provenance with any degree of certainty. It probably has its origin among the French Canadians who traded with Native Americans around the Great Lakes during the sixteenth century. In most versions of the song, the lyrics tell of a seafarer, possibly a canoeing fur-trader, who was in love with the daughter of Shenandoah, a Native American Chief who lived in what is now the state of Virginia. Shenandoah was a real person: an individual of commanding presence who lived for over a hundred years. Sailors heading down the Mississippi picked up the song and made it a capstan shanty, which they sang while hauling in the anchor. By the mid-1800s versions of the song were heard almost everywhere the American clipper ships ventured. Shenandoah was one of the most popular capstan shanties, a slow song which set a manageable pace for the crew in a heavy and lengthy task. Kaldalóns: Ave Maria for Violin and Piano.This is a beautiful melody by the composer Sigvaldi Kaldalóns. This is a catchy, melancholy and very sentimental melody. Sigvaldi Kaldalóns (Stefánsson) (13 January 1881 - 28 July 1946) was an Icelandic composer and doctor. Unlike the avant-garde composers of his day, he wrote in a traditional romantic style and composed many of Iceland's most famous and widely performed songs, many of which are now wrongly assumed to be folk songs. His particular skill was in capturing the spirit of poems in his melodies, making him Iceland's foremost lyric composer.The arrangement written here for violin and piano was based on VÃkingur Ólafsson's beautiful interpretation. In 1889, a struggling composer called Pietro Mascagni heard about a sponsored competition for one-act operas, specifically for young Italian composers who had not yet had an opera performed, only two months before the deadline. With little time, he selected the subject for his opera and asked his childhood friend, Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti (who was helped by Guido Menasci), to write a libretto for him. Mascagni selected a story that he had seen as a play in Milan in early 1884 by realist writer Giovanni Verga, “Rustic Chivalryâ€, or Cavalleria rusticana. A passionate love tragedy featuring seduction, adultery, revenge and murder, it is surprising set on Easter morning.Mascagni received only a few verses at a time from his librettists, but he was not worried because he had the opera clear in his mind: “I identified with the drama to such an extent that I felt it within myself in terms of music.†After two months’ of work, the music for Cavalleria rusticana was finished but he feared the opera would fail and put the music in a draw. Fortunately, his wife sent it off, he unanimously won the competition and was soon the talk of Europe. (At the premiere in May 1890 in Rome, Mascagni received no fewer than 60 curtain calls.) Unfortunately, it was a one-hit wonder with Mascagni unable to repeat its success, saying towards the end of his life that “it is a pity I wrote Cavalleria first for I was crowned before I became king.†He died, penniless, in 1945.Today, few people have heard of Mascagni’s name, and, if they have, it is rarely in relation to anything but one piece from Cavalleria rusticana, the Intermezzo. It’s also a love song; One of the things I like the most is the balance between contemplation and passion that Rachmaninov accomplishes. The poem, by the Countess Glafira Adolfovna Einerling, a contemporary writer of the composer who wrote under the pseudonym of Galina, simply describes a sunset. I don't know if the landscape portrayed is similar to what Rachmaninov could see from his home but no doubt he felt it part of his own; he even changed the beginning of the poem so he said that the nice place was here. Zdes' khorosho is a song full of lyricism, seemingly simple but demanding for the singer (please pay attention to the pianissimo at the last verse, which seems to arise from nowhere), with an exquisite accompaniment. Some scholars think that the true essence of Rachmaninov is found in songs like that, rather than in his athletic piano concerts.Songs of Comfort and Hope is inspired by the series of recorded-at-home musical offerings that Ma began sharing in the first days of the COVID-19 lockdown in the United States. In this arrangement, the melody is played by Violin I. Violin II provides harmonisation to the melody. Piano accompaniment is from the original piece. However, it is played with 2 hands, instead of the left hand only. This is easier for beginners. There are some parts with optional octave higher for the Violins. It is technically challenging on the violin and can be enjoyed without playing 1 octave higher also. The F# after those parts are only if the octave higher option is chosen. I'll Second This is a series of arrangements where Violin II is added to harmonise the melody. The arrangements can be played without Violin II; with just melody and accompaniment. The pdf contains Full Score and Set of Parts (Violin I, Violin II, Piano).

This is a very cinematographic and poetic piece of music. It was originally written for cello and orchestra, and arranged for cello and piano by Alexander Glazunov. However, as with all beautiful melodies, a different feel is achieved with another instrument. I have transcribed it for violin and piano. With the violin, it is technically easier as the original required very high positions on the cello, which is easily played with the E string of the violin. Also, it was originally in tenor clef, which may be challenging for some. In this transcription, it is in treble clef instead. It can also be played with viola (which will be 1 octave higher than the original cello version). This pdf includes Full Score for Violin and Piano and Set of Parts (Violin and Piano).
