Published by JB Linear (A0.582182). This set of music John Dowland wrote for lute came from a larger group of songs transcribed from the lute notation for keyboard by Peter Warlock. These were songs Dowland wrote for or dedicated to certain ladies: Mrs. White's Nothinge, The Shoemaker's Wife (A Toy), The Lady Rich Her Galliard, My Lady Hunsdon's Puffe, and Queen Elizabeth's Galliard. These are not too difficult to play, although music written in the 1500's may sound a little odd. It is set by John Gibson for three clarinets. Articulations and ornaments are provided, however they are optional to suit the performer's tastes.

A short Instrumental Trio which is a chord progression piece like those written by Chopin and Schumann, but here brought into the 21st century with hints of New Age and Jazz. It is homophonic (the parts all move together.) Throughout it is easy crotchets (quarter notes). There are several dynamic markings to observe. There are some accidentals, mostly in the lowest 3rd part which often moves chromatically. This makes the the chord progression sometimes unpredictable and non-traditional so students must listen to tune well.

This album contains 5 of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous and versatile pieces for clarinet trio, all very well suited for the beginners who want to get to know the baroque repertoire. They are also suitable for performances at events such as: weddings, Christian and church ceremonies, Easter, and academic recitals or concerts. They can be used in music institutions and by teachers as repertoire material and study methods, either for performance or instrumental technique. This collection includes a totally free bonus for you to enjoy: Martin Luther's A Mighty Fortress is Our God, a Renaissance sacred song for choir, which has been adapted for this set. 1: Air on the G String - The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument. 2: Arioso - The Cantata 156 (BWV 156) was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. Of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast, it was the last and only one scored for solo voice. This is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different choral melodies and texts in the second and sixth movements. A cantata is a sung symphony consisting of several parts, one of which is the Arioso, which is the initial instrumental part. 3: Jesu, joy of man's desiring - This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works. 4: O Jesulein süss, o Jesulein mild - The Jesulein süß, the Jesulein mild is an original traditional German choral melody for voice and continuous bass arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1735. With lyrics by Valentin Thilo, O Jesulein süss is a sacred melody adapted and catalogued as BWV 493. The first translation is by Dirk van Hogendorp, who made it more of a song for the time of suffering. 5: Minuet in G major - This famous piece has traditionally been attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, as it appears in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena , a notebook that Bach gave to his wife Anna Magdalena in 1725 and which was to be filled with the favorite selections of Bach family members. However, recent research has concluded that this minuet, sometimes referred to as BWV Anhang 114. was probably composed by Christian Petzold, a German composer and organist contemporary with Bach. Bonus: A Mighty Fortress is Our God, by Martin Luther - Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott is a hymn written by Martin Luther probably before 1529. The melody was also considered his work for a long time, but it was created at least with the collaboration of Johann Walter. The song is of great symbolic power for Protestantism, where it is also known as Deus noster refugium et virtus. Considered one of the most important hymns in the history of Christianity, it was considered by the Christian poet Johann Heirich Heine (1797-1856) to be the Marseillaise of the Reformation, in an allusion to the French national anthem.

Capriccio      This lively capriccio features a bouncy melody that is imitated in canon through the other two clarinets. Then the descending fourth motive introduced early is developed in a series of succinct statements. The movement ends with a three part canon with each clarinet racing against the others.  II. Elegy*     After someone leaves our lives there are lingering reminders of the pain of their absence combined with the sweetness of the happiest memories. The middle section represents a flashback to happier times yet the sustained notes hint that something is not quite right. In the end the melody is unable to resolve as it should yet those around it continue on their way.     *Please note that the bass clarinet player should play soprano clarinet for this movement only.  III. Frenetic      This piece would not have been written were it not for the prodding of my friend and fellow composer Felix Rivera. I would joke with him that he may never write a piece not based on tritones and he quipped back that I may never write a piece for clarinets. I decided it was time to fix not having a clarinet selection in my repertoire and this work is the result. This arrangement adapted for clarinet trio was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Beethoven's Turkish March (Op. 113) is the 4th movement of the operatic work: The Ruins of Athens, a set of incidental pieces written in 1812 by Ludwig van Beethoven, where the melody was originally written in 1809 as Theme with Six Variations for Piano, Op. 76. The work was written to accompany the play of the same name by August von Kotzebue, for the dedication of a new theater in Pest. Perhaps the best known part of the composition is the Marcia alla turca, In Latin America, this movement became known in Jean-Jacques Perrey's version (who titled it The Elephant never Forgets) since it was used as the opening theme of the successful Mexican TV comedy El Chavo del Ocho. The opening and the turkish march are often performed separately, and the other pieces in this set are not often heard.

Bremner's original 1780 London publication and also arranged by Hugo Riemann, and again wrongly attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi.It is actually made up of 3 different pieces: Gallo's 2nd Trio Sonata in Bb. Mvts I and III, and Trio Sonata No 8 in Eb.All 3 Gallo mvts were used by Igor Stravinsky in the 3rd mvt. Scherzinoof his Neo Classical Pulcinella Suite. There is few bars joining the 3 mvts...one is Stravinsky's own, one is from a Pergolesi Opera.The Pulcinella Suite for small chamber orchestra and 3 vocalists which was derived from the ballet, was written in 1922 and has no vocal parts. But even though Stravinsky used Pergolesi's(which were in this case Gallo's) melodies and bass lines with little change, he managed to put his own unmistakable stamp on the music through his use of modern harmonies and occasional rhythmic modifications.I have used transcriptions of the original pieces, but have transposed them into the keys used by Stravinsky. I have included the original Pergolesi Aria as the first link, and a scale passage of my own for the second.My arrangement is in the same format as Stravinsky's so is a complete work.I have another upload with the 3 separate movts in their original keys.This arrangement is interesting to play and  do not sound too dissimilar to Stravinsky's final work.It is arranged for clarinet trio (2 Bb and bass)https://youtu.be/PMC-84MmuYw

In 1853 Charles Czerny composed a set of 20 easy piano pieces which he called Amusement des Jeunes Amateurs (Amusement for Young Amateurs); they were subtitled Petites et Brillantes Recreations (Small and Brilliant Recreations). Let's just say they are easy fun little pieces! All of the pieces were loosely based on a folk song or a popular theme from a classical composer. One of them was based on a popular folk Russian polka, so he called it Polka Russe.I have taken Polka Russe and freely arranged it for Instrumental Trio, using some of Czerny's themes, re-arranging them into parts, and also re-ordering them into my own Rondo. Form is Intro-ABACADA-Coda. I have broken up his melodies and spread them across all three parts; each part is of equal importance and each part independently adds to the stunning melodic weaving. Parts are mostly scales and arpeggios. It requires careful counting and close attention to rhythmic interplay, but sounds quite advanced and dramatic when all details are observed. This piece is really quite Easy, I have just marked it Early Intermediate because of the Allegretto vivace tempo, the note range (two octaves), and the necessary counting. A fun piece to show your technique and musicianship as a group in any concert. 1:45 minutes, 8 pages score, 3 pages @ part(Temporary recording of piano reduction of parts)

The Capriol Suite is a set of dances composed in October 1926 by Peter Warlock, and is considered one of his most popular works. Originally written for piano duet, Warlock later scored it for both string and full orchestras. According to the composer, it was based on tunes in Thoinot Arbeau's Orchésographie, a manual of Renaissance dances. Nevertheless, Warlock's biographer, Cecil Gray, said that if one compares these tunes with what the composer has made of them it will be seen that to all intents and purposes it can be regarded as an original work. I have arrangements for other instrumentation of all of the other movements.
