iTromboni's Scott MacInnes is a Canadian trombonist and composer based in Victoria, BC. As a member of both the Pinnacle Brass Quintet and iTromboni, Scott primarily writes music for brass chamber groups. Song for You is a 3-minute original work written in a pop ballad style for his wife. Each of the 5 parts has a moment to feature a player, making this ideal for 5 players rather than a larger group. The outer parts range from F1 to Db6 and inner parts are less extreme.

Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792400). Joshua F’it de Battle of Jericho is a well-known African-American spiritual, most likely composed by slaves in the early 19th century. Early versions used the word f’it for fought. The words harken to the biblical story of the Battle of Jericho, where Joshua led the Israelites to victory against Canaanite armies. Put into perspective, Joshua’s battle is really against slavery and the desire for freedom, like the themes of so many other spirituals from that era. This rousing arrangement in swing-style for 8-part Trombone ensemble by James Markey is about two minutes in length, featuring the 1st and 8th parts and is for advanced performers.

In reimagining the work for trombone octet, American composer P. F. Strohm has kept the piece in the original orchestral keys, and retained all the flourish and drama of the original work. The opening Dawn and Storm, the lovely Pastorale, and the touchstone Finale are all there. This tour de force work comes in two different versions, one for eight players (as arranged for SETREN), and this one for large ensembles of 16 or more players (as arranged for the Eastman Trombone Choir). Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792184). Nimrod, the ninth variation from Elgar's masterpiece Op. 36, Enigma Variations (1898-99) is one of the most recognized works in the classical repertoire. There are so many adjectives to describe this piece of genius: stately, majestic, serious, solemn, moving, noble, languid, stoic, enduring and sublime. There are few works in the repertoire that bring forth such strong emotions as this music, which is often performed for funerals and for Memorial Day / Remembrance Day services. Mr. Malmstrom's beautifully lush arrangement is scored for 2 alto trombones (optional), 3 tenor trombones, 2 bass trombones and 1 contrabass trombone (optional). This arrangement of 3-4 minutes in length is appropriate for advanced performers.

Early versions used the word f’it for fought. The words harken to the biblical story of the Battle of Jericho, where Joshua led the Israelites to victory against Canaanite armies. Put into perspective, Joshua’s battle is really against slavery and the desire for freedom, like the themes of so many other spirituals from that era. This rousing arrangement in swing-style for 8-part Trombone ensemble by James Markey is about two minutes in length, featuring the 1st and 8th parts and is for advanced performers. The mp3 sound clip is taken from Mr. Markey’s solo Bass Trombone album, on base, and includes star performers including Joseph Alessi, David Finlayson and Lisa Albrecht
