TWO BEATS, in this version for any keyboard, is a version of BEATS with an added second part. The original version of BEATS for soprano recorder was written in 2014 for Maria Dorner-Hofmann, a German recorder virtuoso who also teaches at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. The work, in 7 minutes, explores the evolution of repetitive cellular ideas using various meters, lengths of cells and musical atmospheres. There are simple passages as well as virtuosic ones and the energy level of the piece remains at a highly intensive level throughout the entire seven minutes.

For Solo Piano with Guitar chord diagrams.Traditional dances in ancient Armenia were essential to celebrations, holidays, rituals, social gatherings and more. This medley of Western Armenian music in 10/8 is drawn from the Anatolian song-dance tradition and perpetuated in America. In Sirahar Yem (“I'm In Love”), the Left Hand reinforces the stressed beats within the rhythmic pattern, emphasizing beats 1, 4, and 6. Beats are grouped as 3 2 2 3. Initially, this may be a challenge to play but well worth the effort to expand one’s musicianship skills! While harmony is sparingly interspersed in the inner parts, or created in intervals of 3rds and 6ths, traditionally, the ceremonial/wedding melodies Candle Dance and Hars Oo Pesa (“Bride and Groom”) are monophonic. Due to the mountainous terrain in historic Armenia and challenge of travel between villages, these two dances exist with different melodies, depending on the region. The dance steps also vary by village. In contrast, the use of a sustained note (drone) in the bass clef alters the spirit in Hars Oo Pesa where the key also changes to D major. Whereas the piano has limitations in replicating microtones of folk wind instruments such as the zurna used in an authentic Armenian village wedding, the aim in this arrangement is rather to preserve the spirit of the melody and actively engage the amateur pianist.For more information on Armenian music, refer to : Kazarian, Hachig. Around twenty years ago I started playing around with a sound. It wasn't a normal sound, being 7 beats to the bar and alternating at times with 6 beats to the bar. Slowly it grew in me, to a draft version. Then, I moved to another country, and for almost 11 years I didn't have access to a piano or full length keyboard, so it lay waiting in my heart all that time, until recently, sitting at my new digital piano, the sound came forth. It is the sound of the darkness of battle, of Jesus wrestling the keys back from the devil in that one decisive blow on the cross, and then the exuberance of victory, and the cry, It is finished.

Chopin composed his best-known Nocturne in Eâ™ major, Op. 9, No. 2 when he was around twenty years old. This well-known nocturne is in rounded binary form (A, A, B, A, B, A) with coda, C. It is 34 measures long and written in 12 8 meter, having a similar structure to a waltz. The A and B sections become increasingly ornamented with each recurrence. The penultimate bar utilizes considerable rhythmic freedom, indicated by the instruction, senza tempo (without tempo). The nocturne opens with a legato melody, mostly played piano (quietly), containing graceful upward leaps which becomes increasingly wide as the line unfolds. This melody is heard again three times during the piece. With each repetition, it is varied by ever more elaborate decorative tones and trills. The nocturne also includes a subordinate melody, which is played with rubato. A sonorous foundation for the melodic line is provided by the widely spaced notes in the accompaniment, connected by the damper pedal. The waltz-like accompaniment gently emphasizes the 12 8 meter, 12 beats to the measure subdivided into four groups of 3 beats each.

The third voice played by the right hand is shown with smaller notes that could not be played for an easier execution. The theme is famous for its 5/4 rhythm with 4 main beats (Slow-Slow-Fast-Fast) inspired by the Morse codes of the letters M and I (the two initials of Mission Impossible). It's tempting to count in four beats, but make sure to count two beats per measure with the half note getting one beat. Most cut time meters have a moving tempo. Watch out for the consecutive 4ths in measures 10-16 and practice the fingering slowly. Keep the fingering similar in measures 14 and 15. Use little pedaling, using mostly finger pedaling to keep it legato.

To counter that, stress beats 1 and 2 in the left hand, or 1 and 4. Measure 24 has fermatas on each note, so stretch those chords out. Then in bar 25, the a tempo means to go back to the original tempo. Starting in measure 21, bring out the melody and stress the top note of the chords.
