Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1200229 By Skeeter Davis. By Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop,Rock,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Timothy Stapay #799031. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1200229). An arrangement of The End Of The World, a song covered by many famous artists. includingThe Carpenters; thanks to the phenomenal singing of Karen Carpenter. The End of the World was written by composer Arthur Kent and lyricist Sylvia Dee, who often worked as a team. The Carpenters (officially known as Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials. Karen possessed a powerful singing voice, and close miking brought out many nuances in her performances. Richard arranged their music to take advantage of this, though Karen had a three-octave vocal range. Richard's work with Karen was influenced by the music of Les Paul, whose overdubbing of the voice of wife and musical partner Mary Ford allowed her to be used as both the lead and harmony vocals.[6] By multi-tracking, Richard was able to use Karen and himself for the harmonies to back Karen's lead. The overdubbed background harmonies were distinctive to the Carpenters, but it was the soulful, engaging sound of Karen's lead voice that made them so recognizable. Record executive Mike Curb said it was Karen's voice that took the Carpenters above straight pop music into pop rock.  She was known as a one take wonder and could deliver a strong performance on the first attempt.Richard Carpenter was the creative force behind the Carpenters' sound. An accomplished keyboard player, composer and arranger, music critic Daniel Levitin called him one of the most gifted arrangers to emerge in popular music. The duo's smooth harmonies were not in step with contemporary music, which was dominated by heavy rock. Instead, the Carpenters strove for a rich and melodic sound, along the same vein as the Beach Boys and the Mamas & the Papas, but with greater fullness and orchestration including frequent use of small string and horn sections and introspective lyrics centred around relationships. Richard also admired the musicianship and arranging skills of Frank Zappa, and the two briefly met backstage at the Billboard Forum in 1975.End Of The World: Lyrics:Why does the sun go on shining? Why does the sea rush to shore?Don't they know it's the end of the world?'Cause you don't love me any moreWhy do the birds go on singing? Why do the stars glow above?Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when I lost your love[Bridge]I wake up in the morning and I wonderWhy everything's the same as it wasI can't understand, no, I can't understandHow life goes on the way it doesWhy does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry?Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you said goodbyeWhy does my heart go on beating? Why do these eyes of mine cry?Don't they know it's the end of the world? It ended when you

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1205194 Composed by M.Y Owusu. Contemporary. Score. 3 pages. M.Y Owusu #803377. Published by M.Y Owusu (A0.1205194). Aphelion is one of my few pieces that's meant to tell a story and it's not incredibly specific, but here is the story of Aphelion. However, the definition of aphelion first is incredibly important.aphelion (noun):the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid, or comet at which it is furthest from the sun.And it's very important to know the definition of its absolute antonym: perihelion.perihelion (noun):the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid, or comet at which it is closest to the sun. These are terms used in astronomy to describe a celestial object's extreme distance from the sun. I'm using this to describe a relationship between two people. The type of relationship does not matter, it is simply just a relationship. However, you perceive it: platonic, romantic, etc. That is up to your interpretation.Aphelion follows the story of two people, with the start of the piece not actually being the aphelion, but however the perihelion, starting in D Major. It highlights their relationship as perfect, well-rounded, and flawless relationship. Some may call it a honeymoon era/phase or just the possible closest two people could be, i.e the perihelion. Then the two slowly drift away, with a shift to B Minor and D Minor. Issues, flaws, and problems that weren't there before begin to appear. These issues are quickly shoved under the rug, and the two pretend that they are nonexistent. The piece shifts back to D major incredibly quickly, however, there is a slight sense of uneasiness within the piece that I intended to create as it goes through this relationship that is clearly rocky, but it isn't being addressed because neither are choosing to communicate these issues. Then, the mysterious part hits very quickly, this is the aphelion. following a D Minor chord progression, then a shift into D minor itself. This part is where the relationship issues reach a boiling point, neither can stand the other and any attempt to resolve the issues is essentially useless. They stay in a toxic relationship. However, it's labeled as mysterious because the future is an absolute mystery to the two. They don't know what will happen. Then, one confronts the other, they choose to genuinely communicate. It's where the shift back to D Major occurs. They finally come to an understanding. At this point, they can choose to stay in the relationship, and work on the issues, or come to an understanding that it might not work from here, because a relationship takes two. There is a sense of peace, they are finally at peace with one another and their situation. Life can continue moving on, and the piece ends on an A Major chord. This is because A Major can be interpreted as one finally becoming content. That is the story that I intended to tell by writing Aphelion.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323881 By Michael Buble. By Haven Gillespie and John Frederick Coots. Arranged by Thomas Gunther. Blues,Christmas,Jazz. Score. 5 pages. Thomas Gunther Music Productions #912057. Published by Thomas Gunther Music Productions (A0.1323881). Solo Piano Arrangement By Thomas GuntherSanta Claus Is Coming To Town is another one of my favorite Christmas songs. For some reason I love playing it in a bluesy style, with some jazz voicings. The bridge is more in stride piano style.About The ArrangementThe arrangement includes different stylistic elements found in more traditional popular piano music. It definitely has a bluesy vibe, but also shows elements of jazz and stride piano. When it comes to the form I extended it by adding an intro that comes back in-between sections in form of an interlude. There is also an outro. About The Sheet MusicThe sheet music is basically a transcription of my recording. It contains jazz chord symbols and plentiful of articulations as well as some dynamic markings. My Arranging WorkflowI have different approaches for creating solo piano arrangements of songs. The one I took here is as follows. First I come up with different ideas, try them out, and after a while settle on those I like best. Once I practiced and internalized those ideas I press record and hope for the best. Before the final version is done, I record myself many times over. This gives me the opportunity to improve upon each version until I have one that I feel comfortable with.Recommendations For Learning The SongI recommend that you first listen to my performance while reading along in the sheet music. This way you get a better understanding about the phrasing and the rhythmic feel. You may want to spend a little time just vamping a few bars to get into the groove. When that feels good move on to different sections. The bridge is different in feel because it is based on stride piano rather than blues. Stride piano features big jumps in the left hand and big intervals between the outer notes (up to a 10th). Should you have difficulty in playing those big intervals (smaller hands will make this hard) you may roll the notes and use the sustain pedal. Is This Arrangement For You?This solo piano arrangement is for every pianist who would like to try playing Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town in a more bluesy-jazzy style. Dependent on what your specialty is musically speaking, you made benefit from it in different ways. Here are some examples.Classical PianistsIf you are a classical pianist who rarely listens to jazz and blues music, this arrangement might be a great way to dip your feed into more contemporary genres and styles like blues and jazz. This said, it might be quite challenging. Not from a technical point of view, but from a musical point of view. For example, swung eighth notes and accents and phrasing in blues and jazz are somewhat contrary to classical music. It's gonna be a great learning experience for sure!Jazz PianistsShould you be a jazz musician or blues musician, you may not necessarily want to play the arrangement as written note for note. Instead, you might just fall in love with some of my ideas and create your own arrangement based on those. This goes especially for the solo section. You can play my solo or use it as inspiration for your own solo. Of course experiences blues and jazz musicians will prefer to make up their own solo.I truly hope you have fun playing this arrangement! Yes.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1404521 Composed by Noel Gay and Ralph Butler. Arranged by Martyn Clive Johnson (aka Martycli Piano Guy). 20th Century,Comedy,Jazz,Ragtime,Standards. Score. 9 pages. Martyn Johnson #987601. Published by Martyn Johnson (A0.1404521). This song was written in 1939 by Noel Gay and Ralph Butler and popularised by Flanagan and Allen, the music hall duo. It was written for the Noel Gay show 'The Little Dog Laughed'. It's a fun song that apparently was one of Winston Churchill's favourites. So my arrangement is a tribute to Bud, Chesney and Winston! My version features a left hand stride piano/ragtime style and goes through the keys of C and F major. There are lots of stride idioms and riffs in the right hand from the likes of Scott Joplin, Fats Waller and early jazz styles as well as popular pianists such as Russ Conway and Winnifred Attwell. If you have problems with the 10ths in the bass just play octaves or single bass notes instead or possibly 'rolling' or 'bouncing' them ie playing one note and jumping as quickly as possible to the next so as to play almost simultaneously.I don't notate dynamics, fingering or pedalling and prefer to leave these to the discretion of the individual pianist as no two teachers ever agree on such matters.Hope you have as much fun playing it as I did arranging it.

Piano Solo - Advanced - Digital Download Composed by Isadar. Contemporary Classical, Neo- Classical, Activities and Games, Recital, New Age. Sheet Music Single. 9 pages. Published by Mainya Music Publishing (BMI)
Contains:<br> "Throwing The Dice"<br> - taken from the Isadar solo piano collections, "Active Imagination / Reconstructed" (also available on SMP) <br> <br> Sounds like: Liz Story's ("Things With Wings"), Philip Aaberg, George Winston, early Windham Hill solo piano artists<br> <br> Transcribed by: David Shenton ( https://www.shentonmusic.com/ ) verbatim to the sound recording<br> <br> Note: A slightly different version of this composition is also heard on the Isadar album, "Reconstructed" (Produced by Will Ackerman)<br> <br> Album & Songbook Review by: Kathy Parsons<br> <br> I love this CD! It constantly amazes me how many outstanding composer/pianists there are out there - especially in relation to the few who are highly (commercially) successful within this broad genre. I would say that Active Imagination definitely belongs near the top of the heap. Isadar’s style is original, and his pianism is excellent. He lists his inspirations as Liz Story, Keith Jarrett, and Bill Evans, and I can hear traces of all three in his playing, but find his composing and playing styles to be uniquely his own.<br> <br> The first three tracks are lively and upbeat (“Active Imagination”, “Throwing the Dice”, and “Where the Wild Things Are”) with an easy, jazzy, improvised feel. The meter changes are fascinating, and the bluesy beat on “Wild Things” is infectious.<br> <br> From there, the mood seems to gradually darken and become more introspective. “Waiting” is a beautiful, flowing mood piece full of questions and a lovely melody line. Isadar’s cover of Liz Story’s “Wedding Rain” is wonderful - this is a piece I often work on with my advanced students, and everything about Isadar’s interpretation of the piece seems right without being a carbon-copy of Liz’s recording.<br> <br> “Feu Follet (the ‘spook’ light’)” has a nice, easy flow with a strong sense of mystery; it also has an unusual rhythm that lightens the mood and adds a bounce. “Uncertainty” is cooler and more aloof, but gorgeous in its flowing introspection - that it ends with a major chord, feels like the soul-searching has had positive results. “Love Chaconne” is the closing track, and is the longest and most abstract piece on the CD. The left hand plays a repeated pattern while the right hand goes off in several different directions (one of the primary characteristics of a “chaconne”). Beautiful in its simplicity, this is the only track that seems to contain an element of pain and sorrow, but never dissolves into melodrama.<br> <br> Active Imagination is excellent from start to finish and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes solo piano with substance and complexity, but is still accessible, melodic, and rhythmic. Bravo amundo!<br> <br> Active Imagination Sheet Music Collection is the companion songbook to Isadar’s 1999 CD release, Active Imagination. The CD was one of my favorites for the year when I reviewed it for the print version of “Wind and Wire” magazine, so I was really looking forward to the sheet music! Transcribed note-for-note by David Shenton of ShentonMusic.com (I proofed about half of the book, so I can attest to how accurate it is!), it is up to you to make the music sound as close to the CD as you want or to interpret the music and make your own statements with it.<br> <br> One thing that really stands out about this collection is how much FUN it is to play. The rhythms are interesting and catchy, and the mood in several of the songs is playful and upbeat. This is especially true with the title song, “Throwing the Dice,” “Where the Wild Things Are,” and “Feu Follet (the ‘spook’ light).” “Waiting,” “Love Chaconne,” and “Uncertainty” are slower, more introspective, and a bit moody, making this a sheet music collection that contains a variety of moods and styles. The only piece missing from the book is Liz Story’s “Wedding Rain,” but the sheet music for that song is available in some of Ms. Story’s own collections.<br> <br> Early-advanced players should have no trouble with this music. The timing on some of the songs is a little bit tricky, but if you count it as you are learning it, it will fall into place.<br> <br> If you haven’t heard the CD, check it out, too! This book is available here from SMP, isadar.com and amazon.com. Highly recommended!<br> <br> Isadar is an artist on both Enlightened Piano Radio & Whisperings Solo Piano Radio, the latter featuring some of today's biggest names in solo piano music, including Ludovico Einaudi, David Nevue, Brian Crain, Kevin Kern, Robin Spielberg, Michele McLaughlin, Philip Wesley and over 300 more...<br> <br> Also available as sheet music in physical songbooks, digital downloads, as well as software for Yamaha Disklavier player-pianos.<br> <br> For more information, visit his website at: http://www.isadar.comContains:<br> "Throwing The Dice"<br> - taken from the Isadar solo piano collections, "Active Imagination / Reconstructed" (also available on SMP) <br> <br> Sounds like: Liz Story's ("Things With Wings"), Philip Aaberg, George Winston, early Windham Hill solo piano artists<br> <br> Transcribed by: David Shenton ( https://www.shentonmusic.com/ ) verbatim to the sound recording<br> <br> Note: A slightly different version of this composition is also heard on the Isadar album, "Reconstructed" (Produced by Will Ackerman)<br> <br> Album & Songbook Review by: Kathy Parsons<br> <br> I love this CD!
