Solo Guitar - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1473187 By Tom Salvatori. By Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Tom Salvatori. 19th Century,Classical,Romantic Period. Individual part. 1 pages. Salvatori Productions, Inc. #1050809. Published by Salvatori Productions, Inc. (A0.1473187). A note about this Guitar Arrangement - This piece presents a reimagined excerpt from Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto #1 in E minor, 2nd Movement. My goal in the arrangement was to stay strongly reverent to the original form and structure of the composition, but to present it in a manner that I anticipate even Mendelssohn himself would have never expected to hear his work...as a solo nylon string guitar lullaby. My hope is that you will enjoy listening to it in it's new form, and that it will help bring Felix Mendelssohn's composing work newly to the ears of folks who may not be inclined to attend Classical Symphony concerts. - Tom Salvatori, Guitar ArrangerShow less.

Solo Guitar - Level 4 - SKU: A0.966173 Composed by Joe Rosochacki. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Individual part. 3 pages. Joe Rosochacki #2009927. Published by Joe Rosochacki (A0.966173). This Valse is in homage to Manuel Maria Ponce. He was a great Mexican guitarist-composer Manuel MarÃa Ponce Cuéllar (8 December 1882 – 24 April 1948) was a Mexican composer active in the 20th century. His work as a composer, music educator and scholar of Mexican music connected the concert scene with a usually forgotten tradition of popular song and Mexican folklore. Many of his compositions are strongly influenced by the harmonies and form of traditional songs. This work, which I composed for a class in Romanticism while attending Eastern Michigan University, contains many aspects of neo-Romanticism, i.e. pentatonic scales, a plethora of added chords, jazz chords, chromaticism, artificial harmonics all. contained within an A-B-A format.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - SKU: A0.899126 Composed by Rod Whittle. Classical. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #37277. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899126). 4 pages; for solo classical guitar; based on a theme from the Mass in C Minor; published by Maggie Creek MusicWolfgang Amadeus Mozart 1756 -1791 Mozart, whom his sister recounted as picking out thirds on the family clavier at the age of three for the pleasure of it, has been described as achieving miracles of sound across every emotion. Indeed one runs out of superlatives trying to do justice to the quality and originality of his compositions and the abundance of output. Anyone learning about his relatively short life must also pay tribute to his resolve and courage. I've noticed during my time in bands that the music I like sparks creativity, and the lovely theme from the Kyrie of the Mass in C minor spawned a lot of ideas once I'd decided to write something for guitar using it. Mozart's harmonies seem both exclusive and perfect, and I can't imagine my musical life without them. I got to know the Mass when I looked after Nigel's place while he was away, as it was in his record collection. My good friend died (of bone cancer) not long after that, and the Fantasy is a homage to him.

Published by John Fries (A0.1271506). Please contact me by email at jfries@ptd.net to make a special request or to find out all that I have to offer and to express your comments or concerns. Thanks, John. Alfie is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David to promote the 1966 film Alfie. Cilia Black states that, rather than declining outright to record the song, she decided to set conditions: I said I'd only do it if Burt Bacharach himself did the arrangement, never thinking for one moment that he would. When the reply came back from America that he'd be happy to...I said I would only do it if Burt came over to London for the recording session. 'Yes,' came the reply. Next I said that as well as the arrangements and coming over, he had to play piano on the session. To my astonishment it was agreed that Burt would do all three. So by this time, coward that I was, I really couldn't back out. The song was a major hit for Cilla Black (UK) and Dionne Warwick (US).

Edel had returned to St. Joseph to perform his competition winner’s concert. We met again at Classical Minds in Houston in June 2012 at which point we got to hear each others’ concerts. Edel is one of the most suave and subtle yet powerful players I have ever heard. I was thrilled that he asked me to write a piece for him.At the time of composition I generally used various techniques for generating musical ideas developed over the previous years. But I tossed those ideas out the door and wrote from pure inspiration. The result is my first piece that uses the octatonic, or diminished scale. It alternates between dramatic chordal outbursts and flowing bass melodies. Black Falcon is in two sections: Larghissimo in 4/2 and Allegro in 12/8. This is a pattern I have used in several solo works and one duo that I call my Raptor Series. All Gyre Publications are ASCAPGyre PublicationsCopyright ©2013 Frank A. Solo Guitar - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1015737 Composed by Juan Gaspar. Contemporary. Individual part. 2 pages. Juan Gaspar #5726157. Published by Juan Gaspar (A0.1015737). I dreamed I was performing a gentle but compelling guitar piece in concert. I woke up and wrote down what I could remember. When I began to develop it, I tried to fit the ideas in groups of eight bars or measures but it did not have the feel of the music in my dream. This piece does not attempt to be square, it has a freer structure. It is as free as a dream. And, what is life? A dream! .

Guitar - Level 1 - SKU: A0.797757 Composed by Johann Pachelbel + Traditional Cornish. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Baroque,Christmas,Classical. 14 pages. Derek Hasted #4847685. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797757). PACHELBEL'S CAROL - a piece with a twist in the tail - 6 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes Pachelbel's Carol - a piece for 6 guitars (or a large ensemble) with a twist in the tail! Before you purchase - please note that I have also arranged this piece in 5 parts. You can find it most easily from my website (below) - select the quintet page.It was quite a few years ago that I conceived and arranged this fun little Christmas piece. Since then I’ve performed it many times in concert, and it’s always particularly well received. The arpeggios and countermelodies are inspired by the repeating sequences in Pachelbel’s Canon, and they end up providing a rich and totally unexpected accompaniment to a verse and chorus of the famous Christmas Carol 'The First Nowell'.This piece is just perfect as a special item in a Christmas concert, because the title conceals the surprise in the piece - each phase brings in another guitar part, making the piece build slowly before the final guitar launches into the well-known carol. The parts are easy and suitable for an ensemble with limited experience or one with limited chances to rehearse. In a mixed ability ensemble, there’s something for everyone; in a school guitar group, the teacher can take the Guitar 6 part if no-one in the group is comfortable in fifth position - all the other parts are first position.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797758). PACHELBEL'S CAROL - a piece with a twist in the tail - 5 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes Pachelbel's Carol - a piece for 5 guitars (or a large ensemble) with a twist in the tail! Before you purchase - please note that I have also arranged this piece in 6 parts - the additional part is suitable for a complete beginner. You can find it most easily from my website (below) - select the sextet page.It was quite a few years ago that I conceived and arranged this fun little Christmas piece. Since then I’ve performed it many times in concert with my Guitar Workshop, and it’s always particularly well received. In a mixed ability ensemble, there’s something for everyone; in a school guitar group, the teacher can take the Guitar 5 part if no-one in the group is comfortable in fifth position - all the other parts are first position.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

This prayer has been written very strongly with a feeling of desire. Not clearly for what, but at least to look for contact with a higher spirit and ask for contact. It repeats a lot, as a feeling in a person repeats a lot. Question is to put a lot of feeling in the interpretation of this piece. I played it on a wedding some time ago and I was rewarded, noting after playing it , that some people were crying. What can you wish more to achieve? You can also consider it as a meditation, to get peace in your mind.

Armer Mann (Op81 N0 3) by N. Von Wilm (1834-1911) is a beautiful melodic piece with subtle harmonies that suit the intimate characteristics of the solo guitar version. I was able to use the original piano key of A minor in this guitar arrangement because the melody sits so perfectly on the 1st and 2nd strings of the guitar. A unique opportunity to explore inspiring music written for piano but that sounds equally at home on the guitar. Guitar Level: intermediate This Guitar arrangement is available in 3 versions: 1. Score (notes and Tab) 2. Notes Only 3. Tab only for Guitar

Individual part. 12 pages. Pedro Jesús Gómez Lorente #1029511. Published by Pedro Jesús Gómez Lorente (A0.1449751). Joaquín Malats's Serenata Española was premiered at the Salon Érard in Barcelona on 22 September 1891,[1] and was published by Zozaya a year later. Despite what it may seem from the initial title on the cover of the Suite Impresiones de España, this work was never performed as a suite for orchestra. Originally conceived as a collection in which the Serenade was the second of the pieces, only this one was published in addition to the first one: Danza. Joaquim Malats performed these two compositions in numerous concerts as part of the Suite Impresiones de España,[2] however, he neither published them as a unitary corpus, nor did the ochestral version see the light. The suite was initially dedicated to the great writer Benito Pérez Galdós, who was also a personal friend of the composer. This edition aims to provide a new vision of the work by contrasting the first two arrangements that were made, by Tárrega and by his disciple Severino García Fortea, with the original piano source, paying special attention to include agogics, dynamics and phrasing arcs indications in the piano font and to the maintenance of the original structure of the work. Classical Guitar Solo - IntermediateComposed by Edwin Culver (1992-) 4 Pages. Duration 7'30Composer's note: Have you ever felt stuck? Trapped by something you can’t fully understand no matter how hard you try? Perhaps it’s something from our past that we never invited...or something we’ve missed in our closest relationships, maybe it’s just the dread we’ve felt waking up early in the morning to repeat the daily grind. We work hard to try and propel ourselves out of this nightmare, but we never seem to get totally free, in fact sometimes it feels like we’re just making ourselves feel worse by failing to overcome it yet again. This piece, ...a bridge a-way, exits within, represents that feedback loop, that stuckness. The piece came to me when I felt stuck in life by several things - old scars, old habits, crippling emotions. I had been wanting to write something in a minimalist style for the guitar for quite some time and the repetition found in so much minimalist music seemed like the obvious way for expressing this stuckness. There’s constant motion in the piece, just like when we try to take constant action in our lives to improve our circumstances. But all this motion never seems to get us anywhere new. We’re spinning our wheels…But one of the interesting things about great minimalist music is that it’s not merely about repetition. I don’t believe the greatest minimalists were concerned with having less stuff in their music for the sake of having less. Instead, what I think they more often aimed for was producing the biggest emotional impact that they could through the tiniest of changes. And if in your mind’s eye you zoom out from one of these minimalist masterworks and perceive it on a grand scale, you realize that despite all the seemingly redundant repetition in the moment the piece actually covers a huge distance because all those tiny changes add up.Likewise, in ...a bridge a-way, exits within, it seems like the performer can’t free himself from the territory of the first position on the guitar for the longest time. Even when he does venture higher up the instrument he’s always inextricably pulled back to the starting point. But small changes can have a profound impact. It doesn’t feel like we’re making headway whenever we’re having to crawl out of our skin - until, suddenly, when it’s all over. And you hear this towards the end of the piece, when there’s a sudden magnetic force that pulls the music from a low A to a high E-natural. From A to E, a bridge to exits eternal. The bridge has been found within, in the One I’ve put my trust in, because I can’t reach my eternal destiny on my own. This is ...a bridge a-way, exits within.

Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899109). 2 pages; for solo classical guitar; published by Maggie Creek MusicRichard Strauss (1864 -1949) Strauss's music amounts to a huge body of symphonic and operatic work written over 60 years. Full of vitality, endlessly melodic, brilliantly orchestrated, it begins and ends in the romantic tradition, but for the most part expresses something more modern and individualistic, not without controversy in its time. Variation of style and structure is drawn from the descriptive (literary) nature of compositions, and an extraordinary inventiveness enlivens the scenes, moods and situations. Strauss said once that he produced music the way cows give milk, and indeed his music rarely seems contrived. The opera Strauss wrote 15 operas on a variety of subjects and across the whole spectrum of drama. He acknowledged being enchanted by the soprano voice, and his writing for it highlights many of the works, including Adriane auf Naxos (composed in 1912). The opera has been described as 'sparkling', which sums it up well, and passages influenced by Bach, Mozart, Puccini, and Wagner add to the interest. The storyline is a play within a play, the second part being the mythological 'Opera' staged in the story. The three pieces transcribed* are from this Opera. The guitar arrangements All classical guitar pieces are compromises. The instrument has only six strings, the left hand four fingers able to be used, and with the right hand its rare to use more than three fingers and the thumb. So, despite the amount of noise possible, it's inevitable that passages occur where either harmony, bass or fragments of counterpoint that would be beneficial are left out. In particular, the higher up the neck music is played the simpler it tends to be, if harder to play, and unless the low bass is an open string there wont be any. So I think the main part of attaining a fair transcription (better to be called an arrangement if the original musical structure is not strictly followed, as in this case) is determining how a good compromise can be reached. Melody, counterpoint, bass and main harmonies demand inclusion, and register is important. One may generally assume the original score can't be improved on. However, if the music may sound well on guitar, and the above elements can be incorporated without the playing becoming very difficult, something enjoyable to play and worthwhile listening to should be able to be achieved. Overture; 'A golden time …' Here the Mozart influence, better, inspiration, is wonderfully evident. A gentle waltz time (only the first section of the overture is transcribed) carries the colourful harmonies, strong melodic threads and connecting flourishes that stamp both pieces. The aria is alluded to in the Overture several times, which as you would expect, is intricately woven with the hints themes later to be established in the Opera. It has a kind of 'jazzy' freedom, and it's always miraculous to me that composition so involved can retain its musical line, here done in Strauss's inimitable way. The aria, sung not far into the Opera, has the perfect inevitability of Mozart, but again it is Strauss. As explained, keys have been changed to suit the guitar. Chorus and Aria This selection from the finale has features well worth trying to translate. The device of having a strong chorus, in the style of a Bach chorale, stated and then counterpointed by a solo voice in a restatement, is potent, and that in the opera the chorus (of the three nymphs) isn't immediately followed by the accompanying aria (of Ariadne) means the latter comes as a moment of surprising beauty. Neither parts are complicated, and lovely arpeggios, a feature Strauss's music, often impart the assured progressions. A problem was to capture the distinct register o.

Solo Guitar - SKU: A0.899137 Composed by Giulio Regondi. Arranged by Rod Whittle. Romantic Period. Individual part. 4 pages. Maggie Creek Music #4349081. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899137). for solo classical guitar (tremolo) 4 pp (7 min.)GIULIO REGONDI (1823 - 72) Regondi was born in Switzerland, but lived in France and, mostly, the United Kingdom. He was a child prodigy of the guitar, with Fenando Sor dedicating a piece to him when he was just nine. He composed for the guitar and also the concertina. His works for solo guitar comprise etudes, a set of variations and some larger compositions. The tremolo section of the Nocturne (op.19) - subtitled 'Reverie' – must be some of the most wonderful music written for tremolo guitar. In the Nocturne it is split between sections of different style and content, but its effectiveness as a piece is fully satisfied without these interspersed parts, nice as they are, and its persuasive theme quite naturally repeats to end with a superb coda (which also finishes the actual Nocturne). The original score has no dynamics except for the end, and I have not added any. However, the piece is impossible to play without inferring some loudness, tempo and accentuation changes. There is that Romantic period element to it. I have added fingering. I like to settle into a barre position where possible – it often lets the bass accompaniment ring through (e.g. the D in the first few bars) and simplifies the playing. But it hardly needs saying that fingering, helpful if it is good, is a kind of curse if it is bad or just wrong, and it is never mandatory. It is always instructive with tremolo pieces to first play some of the top line (e.g. of the first few bars) without tremolo to properly reveal its melody. The style needs plenty of practice to achieve fidelity to this musical meaning; that is always the aim. Then listen carefully as the lower part is added. The bass is very important, as mentioned, but the harmonies of the broken chords are vital too. The Nocturne is brilliant counterpoint.

All My Loving is a Beatles song, composed by Paul McCartney (although it is credited to Lennon/McCartney) for the 1963 album With the Beatles. It was one of the few examples of compositions where McCartney wrote the lyrics before the music; the text was apparently conceived as a poem, composed while he was shaving.McCartney originally envisioned it as a country & western song, and it was written on piano during a rehearsal for the Beatles' tour with Roy Orbison; George Harrison added his Nashville-style guitar solo to the recording. Using the letter format in the song's lyrics, also used in P.S. I Love You.

Solo Guitar - Level 3 - SKU: A0.899132 Composed by Maurice Ravel. Arranged by Rod Whittle. Contemporary. Individual part. 2 pages. Maggie Creek Music #3868243. Published by Maggie Creek Music (A0.899132). For solo classical guitar; 2 pp; intermediate difficulty.Maurice Ravel (1875 -1937) Ravel was born in the Basque region of France and much of his work shows a Spanish influence (this, together with his interest in jazz has produced some exceptional guitar transcriptions). He was a pupil of Faure and at first fell, like many contemporary composers, under Debussy's spell. However, his ascetic and intellectual bents produced from the start a refinement of composition and orchestration, and development of melody, all his own. Later music, including the Concerto, shows his love of the rhythmic features of jazz, and thoughtful incorporation of the innovations of modern music – strong dissonance, atonality etc. Ravel wrote both music and lyrics for a number of songs including Trois Beaux Oiseaux du Paradis (Three Lovely Birds from Paradise - see below), composed in 1916 while he was posted in the French army during WW1, this at significant physical and mental cost (ref. Wikipedia). Thus the tragic lyrics arise from experience, and the music (Ravel was 40) is typically expressive and uncomplicated with the usual harmonic surprises.Three Lovely Birds from Paradise (English translation)Three lovely birds from Paradise(My beloved has to the fighting gone)Three lovely birds from ParadiseHave flown along this way.The first was bluer than Heaven's blue,(My beloved has to the fighting gone)The second white as the fallen snow,The third was wrapped in bright red glow.'Ye lovely birds from Paradise(My beloved has to the fighting gone)Ye lovely birds from ParadiseWhat bring ye then this way?''I bring to thee a glance of azure(Thy beloved has to the fighting gone)And I on fairest snow white browA fond kiss must leave, yet purer still.''Thou bright red bird from Paradise(My beloved has to the fighting gone)Thou bright red bird from Paradise,What brings thou to me?''A faithful heart all crimson red,(Thy beloved has to the fighting gone)''Ah! I feel my heart glowing cold…Take it also with thee.' Maurice Ravel (1914)

Solo Guitar - Level 5 - SKU: A0.985325 Composed by Jeremiah Lawson. Contemporary. Individual part. 9 pages. Jeremiah Lawson #6012233. Published by Jeremiah Lawson (A0.985325). Guitar Sonata No. 5 in G major is open G tuning. It is in three movements and performance time is abut 10 to 10:15. Movements 1 and 3 are to be played using a glass or bronze slide worn on the fourth finger. The movements are:1. Hobo Spider Blues2. Ragged) and Sor(e) (after Sor's Op. 29, 10)3. Ricardo de YakimaThe first movement is a set of bottleneck technique variations on an original blues theme. Each variation explores different timbrel possibilities such as ordinary tone, pizzicato, sul tasto, and ponticello before recapitulating the original form of the blues theme. The second movement reconceives Sor's study in E flat from his Op. 29 as a ragtime sonata form, with a developmental intrusion from another Sor etude. This ragtime sonata leads attaca into the final movement. The third movement is another set of variations, this time on a two-step dance theme cast in the form of a menuet. It was common in early 19th century guitar sonatas to end with a menuet and so I opted to end with a menuet with variations. In sharp contrast to my first guitar sonata, which drew inspiration from late Beethoven piano sonatas and late Shostakovich string quartets, the inspirations here were Muddy Waters, Fernando Sor, Scott Joplin, Johnny Cash, and Don Helms. This sonata was also recorded by Daniel Estrem on Estrem Plays Lawson, which was released through Magnatune in 2016. .
