Full Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.755297 Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 157 pages. Sy Brandon #6067165. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755297). This four-movement composition contains musical interpretations of four of Georgia O’Keeffe’s New Mexico paintings. The score prints on legal size paper and the parts on letter. I. From the Faraway Nearby The highly charged contrast of closely viewed foreground details and hugely distant horizons, which typified the New Mexican Views of O'Keeffe, was not a mere optical illusion. The large scale, bright light, and clear air of the region permitted one to see for the proverbial forever, and the juxtaposition of faraway and nearby was an integral aspect of desert vision. Soft dynamics and orchestration represent the faraway while the loud dynamics and orchestration represent the nearby. Near the end, the faraway and nearby begin to merge. II. Jimson Weed, White Flower No. 1 This painting depicts one of O'Keeffe's favorite subjects: a magnified flower. To her, the delicate blooms stood as some of the most overlooked pieces of naturally occurring beauty, objects that the bustling contemporary world ignored. So she made it her mission to highlight their complex structures, explaining: When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not. This movement is slow and lyrical reflecting the beauty of the close-up image. III. Red Hills and Bone O'Keeffe 's most effective composition of bones in the landscape appeared in 1941, with Red Hills and Bone; the large canvas is also among her most ambitions evocations of the arid country of which she was by then an owner, having purchase the house at Ghost Ranch the preceding year. In 1939, O'Keeffe had written of the bones as strangely more living than the animals walking around, and in the 1941 painting her response is given visual from. The minimalistic noodling represents the red hills and the bold triplets represent the mystique of the bone. IV. Ladder to the Moon This painting shows a handmade wooden ladder suspended in the turquoise sky. In the background are the pitch-black Pedernal Mountains and a pearl colored half moon. This painting was very similar to a picture taken of O'Keeffe and her surroundings at Ghost Ranch. In the picture, a large wooden ladder is leaned against an outer wall of a patio from where it rises up into the sky with the Pedernal Mountains in the background. In Pueblo culture the ladder is used to symbolize the link between the Pueblos and cosmic forces. The fact that the ladder is pointed up in the sky may represent the link between nature and the cosmos. While there are motifs that depict specifics of the painting, such as the scale-wise ascending and descending figure for the crescent mood and rising arpeggios for the ladder, the focus of this movement is the spiritual element. The music rises and grows in intensity from a ground bass-like theme to a soaring ending.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.575288 By Christina Aguilera. By David Zippel and Matthew Wilder. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show. Score and parts. 39 pages. Kevin Riley #184647. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.575288). Reflection is a song written and produced by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel for the soundtrack of Disney's 1998 animated film Mulan. In the film, the song is performed by Tony Award winner, Filipina singer and actress Lea Salonga as Fa Mulan. An accompanying music video for Reflection was included as a bonus to the Disney Gold Classic Collection DVD release of the film in February 2000. Reflection has received highly positive reviews, with critics highlighting its emotional writing and Salonga's vocals. A single version of the song was recorded by American singer Christina Aguilera and became her debut single. She was 17 at the time it was released. The single's commercial success funded Aguilera's debut album from RCA, in addition to gaining her credibility amongst established writers and producers. Releases of the single were limited, which resulted in the track charting only on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. An accompanying music video for the song was included on the DVD release of Mulan. Aguilera has performed the track on four televised performances, including at the CBS This Morning show, which saw her gain the attention of songwriter Diane Warren. A later, the remix by Eric Kupper was released. In 2020, Aguilera re-recorded the song for the live adaption of Mulan.

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.742589 By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Javier MartÃnez Maya. Contemporary. Score and parts. 54 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #6431891. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742589). You've Got to Hide Your Love Away is a song by the English rock band the Beatles. It was written and sung by John Lennon (though credited to Lennon–McCartney) and released on the album Help! in August 1965.Lennon said of the song, That's me in my Dylan period again. I am like a chameleon, influenced by whatever is going on. If Elvis can do it, I can do it. If the Everly Brothers can do it, me and Paul can. Same with Dylan. The song is an early example of John self-reflecting in his writing, which had begun with songs such as I'm a Loser in the summer of 1964. Lennon wrote the song at home, wanting another song for the film Help!. The song is just basically John doing Dylan, Paul McCartney confirmed. The song is similar to a folkish strophic form and uses a Dylanesque acoustic guitar figure in compound duple time, chiefly acoustic accompaniment, no backing voices and light percussion from brushed snare, tambourine and maraca. A flute, however, replaces the harmonica that Dylan typically used. Taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You%27ve_Got_to_Hide_Your_Love_Away

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1494054 Composed by John Newton. Arranged by L.C. Harnsberger. Classical,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Holiday,Spiritual. 40 pages. LCH Music #1070663. Published by LCH Music (A0.1494054). Few hymn tunes are as popular and moving as “Amazing Grace.” This timeless melody known as “New Britain” was adapted in 1835 to include the inspiring words written by John Newton in 1772. This arrangement holds personal significance, as it was written when my father was very ill—it was his favorite song, especially near the end of his life. The piece starts quietly with an introduction that gradually builds with brass fanfares and woodwind flourishes, emulating both the calm and struggles of youth. The somber mood continues as sustained drones support the iconic melody, echoing in the distance and symbolizing the complex journey of finding one’s path in life. A flowing, calm chromatic section represents a joyous period, which then abruptly shifts to a tumultuous descent. This resolves into a quiet and peaceful conclusion, reflecting ultimate resolution and acceptance. This touching piece will engage audiences and will be a welcome addition to any performance. Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976721 Composed by 12th Century Plainchant. Arranged by Robert Myers. Christian,Christmas,Contemporary,Sacred. Score and parts. 76 pages. WheatMyer Music #4798079. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976721). DIVINUM MYSTERIUM is a chant tune dating to the 12th century which is associated with the hymn, Of the Father's Love Begotten, based on the Latin hymn, Corde natus ex parentis, written by Prudentius in the late 4th / early 5th century. This is thus one of the very oldest texts and tunes still sung in our churches today. The shape and flow of this arrangement, which includes quotations from CANTIQUE de NOEL (O Holy Night) – Adolphe Adam (1844), was strongly influenced by what one writer described as the strong wave shapes of the tune. I’ve attempted to make these waves a significant feature of the piece, featured in both the constant crescendo/decrescendos and the interweaving of the two tunes. And, just as ocean waves don’t arrive in steady rhythms, these musical waves are variable – sometimes closely spaced, sometimes not, and sometimes overlapping. The unique character of each of the three major sections is implied in their headings: (1) with mystery and wonder, (2) Joyfully – a child is born, and (3) contemplative – God is with us. The opening section portrays the mystery of the trinity (the hymn text was written as an apology for the Nicene Creed) mixed with the wonder of the Creator God lying in a manger. Since the tune is derived from medieval chant, I wanted this section to reflect the loose metrical nature of that genre, so the melodic phrasing should predominate over any sense of meter up to letter C. The initial tonal and metrical ambiguity and the fractured melodic lines gradually meld into conventional tonality and clear statements of the two main themes. Don’t let the poco rit. just before C be too poco. Build a definite sense of tension in anticipation of the Presto section. The Presto section presents the first complete statement of the main theme. I felt a strong, rhythmic treatment should follow the ambiguity of the opening to reflect the joy of the Messiah’s incarnation realized. However, the gravity of the text demands avoidance of frivolity and banality. Thus, I used a combination of the long, flowing lines with a syncopated pulse and echoing rhythms to produce what I hope is a fresh but still reverent treatment of this ancient hymn – one that produces a kaleidoscope of tonal color. Arriving at the third section at letter F, the asymmetrical pulse gradually shifts into a straight 3 pattern. The slower tempo and return of the secondary theme call us to reflect on the import of God now with us. The marking of Let off the gas and coast to the end is a word picture of how the tempo should draw to a close, as would an expert helmsman allow the ship’s momentum to stop just as it taps the dock. One parting moment is provided to savor the woodwinds closing phrase from CANTIQUE de NOEL. Robert Myers S.D.G. Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1440683 By Graham Hamilton. By Graham Hamilton. Classical,Contest,Festival,Film/TV,Historic,Traditional. 103 pages. Hambone Music #1020661. Published by Hambone Music (A0.1440683). A dramatic film-type composition capturing the journey of a novice monk during 15th Century Scotland. For orchestras of an intermediate standard. Ahaunting french horn solo is followed by a dramatic trek utilising the whole orchestra to the end where the horn to round the piece off.Inspired by an old ruined church in my town called the 'Cross Kirk' the history of which can be found here: https://www.britainexpress.co.uk/attr... Part 1 (0 - 2:24) It is around the year 1650. A novice monk awakes from his slumber to the echoes of prayers and holy chanting coming through the cloisters. After he rises, he readies the oxen for a trek down the St. Andrews Road to the nearby satellite site of the priory - the site of the modern day St Andrew's cemetery. Part 2 (2:26 -3:37) It is an arduous trek over a muddy, rocky, unprepared track with heavy carts, with oxen straining to pull the load. They stop for a breather (3:09) and the impressive vistas are observed and the flag at 'Auld Neidpath' is just visible, reflected in the noble theme between the arduous oxen trekking theme. Part 3 (3:37 - 6:02) The caravan starts to speed up; the oxen being startled by the sounds of fanfare trumpets coming from behind - a brave group of knights have broken through English lines and speed towards Neidpath to reinforce the besieged occupants. As they pass the wagon train, the fanfares get louder until the party reach the head of the train (4:30) where the lead Knight halts to show piety to the Hieromonk who blesses him and his knights (4:55). The novice looks on awe-inspired at the brave knights, with noble faces, resplendent in shining armour, with banners flapping in the wind. (5:02) No time to stop! The knights remount and continue on, the fanfares trailing off into the distance. The wagon train slows down having reached its destination. Part 4 (6:03 - 8:12) The novice is back at the priory, reflecting on seeing knights for the first time (receiving their blessing); their nobility and bravery impressed upon him and retires to his cell for the evening, the evening prayers and chants again echoing through the cloisters (6:30). As he closes his eyes, his mind returns to the knights and a smile crosses his face (8:01) as he gently drifts off to sleep, as the final bell of the day tolls.

From the formal point of view, Un Piccolo Concerto is structured in three movements: I: Moderato, II: Homage to Ponce, mostly slow and II: Aires Mexicanos, allegro with verve. From the harmonic point of view, in the first movement a modal language is used, with some very tonal parts, the use of pantonalism or a very accelerated path through different tones and some use of blue elements, with a leitmotiv that is will repeat several times, giving the work a minimalist accent. The second movement, however, is very tonal, epic, with different changes of tone and mode in its development. In the third, the procedure is totally tonal, although very modulant, where they try to reflect the Mexican airs, because that is its main purpose. In this movement the same leitmotiv of the first one is also exploited, but with the rhythmic variant that supposes the ternary subdivision (6/8). In all movements, special care has been taken to respect the guitar aspect, both in technique and style. The estimated duration is approximately 17:30, although it could vary according to the sense given to the rittardando, taste of the interpreter and intermediates between movements.

Tenor Saxophone Solo with Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: IZ.OMW223 Composed by Phil Sims. Score and Parts. 268 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #OMW223. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.OMW223). 8.5 x 11 inches. The Waking, by Theodore Roethke, is an enigmatic villanelle written in 1953, a year after he got married. In it the poet puts forward various ideas about life and how to live it. A villanelle is based on repeated lines (a refrain) that connects each stanza as the poem progresses.Theodore Roethke's poetry is known for its exploration of the self through reflection on family and nature; there is plenty of depth and technical skill. His mental illness also caused him to look into the darkness from time to time, recording his inner life in personal poems.Growing up, he spent lots of time in his father's garden and greenhouses and soil and plants and roots and things often turn up in his work. In fact the greenhouse, for Roethke, was a symbol 'for the whole of life, a womb, a heaven-on-earth.'The Waking doesn't contain a greenhouse but it does have symbolism and takes the reader into unexpected places. It is both introspective and positive in its outlook.

Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1080608 By Dario Duarte. By Dario Duarte. Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 45 pages. Dario Duarte #684825. Published by Dario Duarte (A0.1080608). The piece consists of a description of a small tableau with an autumn theme in an idyllic town. In the region of the Latin American Andes, more precisely the tableau called ayacuchano is an art form very representative of the folklore of the region. Taking this idea of micro-stories, the work narrates four scenes of a day that begins at dawn and ends with the town's festival. Each story corresponds to the four sections of the music, which are performed successively. First tableau: Autumn morning lights. The change of season is perceived in the ashen morning lights of the autumn season, the sun rises lightly with a slight warmth, giving the ochre color that dominates the landscape a sense of tranquility and reflectiveness. The mood of this piece is one of contemplation. Second tableau: Noon in the town The tableau opens. It is midday. The whole town is busy with preparations for the harvest festival celebration. The music goes by with the sounds of the town and the joy of the inhabitants for the important festivity they are about to share as a community. The whole town is a great hustle and bustle. You hear barrel organs, feel the excitement of hanging banners and decorating the houses for the main parade. Third tableau. Little song for siesta time. A nostalgic voice sings an old folk song to lull the children to sleep. The voices of other adults of the town intertwine to sing a song to the sleeping children. It is a tender song that recovers the stillness and tranquility of the town at the hour when everyone returns to their homes to rest. Fourth tableau: Night of celebration. Harvest Festival The first chords of the town band can be heard in the distance, a melody invites to enter with enthusiasm to the place where the festival will take place. The dance begins, the band plays energetically and everyone participates in a dance of joy. In the most important moment of the party, the town's hymn is played, everyone joins in one voice to sing the song that distinguishes them. And now: the announcement of the winners of the harvest contest. Someone is honored and everyone applauds vigorously. Then the dancing continues again. Everyone occupies the center of the dance floor and enjoys being part of a colorful celebration of unity for the town. Instragram (to be contacted by the instrumental parts): @darioduartenunez.

George Whitefield Chadwickâ??s Elegy â?? originally composed for organ and later orchestrated by the composer â?? bears the dedication, â??In Memoriam Horatio Parker.â? The Elegy is a mournful and reflective composition written in memory of Horatio Parker, an influential American composer in his own right, and Chadwickâ??s colleague, friend, and one-time pupil. Chadwick and Parker were part of the Second New England School of composers, a group that aimed to establish a distinctly American musical identity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chadwick's Elegy reflects his deep respect and admiration for Parker, as well as his own sense of loss at Parker's passing. The piece embodies somber and contemplative emotions, expressed through lush harmonies, poignant melodies, and moments of dramatic intensity.

Full Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1464081 By David Bowie. By David Bowie. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Pop. 42 pages. Kevin Riley #1042792. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1464081). Life on Mars? is a song by the English singer-songwriter David Bowie, first released on his 1971 album Hunky Dory. Bowie wrote the song as a parody of Frank Sinatra's My Way. Life on Mars? was recorded on 6 August 1971 at Trident Studios in London, and was co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott. Bowie's backing band consisted of guitarist and string arranger Mick Ronson, bassist Trevor Bolder, drummer Mick Woodmansey and Strawbs member Rick Wakeman on piano. Life on Mars? is primarily a glam rock ballad, with elements of cabaret and art rock; it has a complex structure that includes chord changes throughout. The lyrics are about a girl who goes to a cinema to escape reality, and include surreal images that reflect optimism and the effects of Hollywood. At the height of Bowie's fame as Ziggy Stardust, RCA Records issued Life on Mars? as a single on 22 June 1973 in the United Kingdom, where it peaked at number three. To promote the single, photographer Mick Rockfilmed a video that shows Bowie in make-up and a turquoise suit singing the song against a white backdrop. Bowie frequently performed Life on Mars? during his concerts and the song has appeared on numerous compilation albums. Scott remixed the song in 2003 and 2016, the latter being a stripped down mix.Life on Mars? is considered by commentators as one of Bowie's greatest songs, and one of the best songs of all time. Critics have praised Bowie's vocal performance and growth as a songwriter. The song's title was given to the British television series Life on Mars, and films and other television programmes have included Life on Mars?. Artists including Barbra Streisand, and Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, have recorded cover versions of the song; and following Bowie's death in 2016, Life on Mars? was frequently chosen as a tribute to the artist.

Art Haus Music Publishing #782800. Published by Art Haus Music Publishing (A0.1183082). This piece is a celebration of my heritage and ancestry. By incorporating aspects of Palo music in a traditionally Euro-centric style of music I hope to expand the boundaries for what is possible in contemporary classical music as it reflects the eclectic collage of where I come from. I hope to specifically illuminate the underrepresented aspects of my identity in composition as it is those aspects that can create uniqueness and innovation in the long history and tradition classical music. Performing my music is a rebellious act. Centuries of composers have been misguided to dismiss the study of complex rhythm and groove as it is a subject associated with the music of Africa. Now with time and exhaustion of European principles we must look to the countries of Africa with reverence for our missing education on one of the vital ingredients of music. I hope you enjoy the kaleidoscope of colors and weaved rhythms that come together to make this piece come alive! This piece is dedicated to all the ancestors that came before me. May I honor their lives with music. Format: Transposed Score in Tabloid (11'' x 17'')Instrumentation: 1 Piccolo, 1 Flute, 1 Oboe, 1 Clarinet in Bb, 1 Bassoon, 1 Horn in F, 1 Trumpet in Bb 1, 1 Trumpet in Bb 2, 1 Trombone, 1 Tuba, 1 Güira, 1 Woodblock, Congas 1 (3 Drums), Congas 2 (2 Drums), 1 Timbales, 5 Violin I, 5 Violin II, 3 Viola, 6 Violoncello, 2 ContrabassDuration: Approx. 4 minutes

During this time, the health crisis had shown a spotlight on many of the very serious problems in America that need to be resolved going forward. The country is going to have to go through a long reclamation period to restore what has severely eroded over many decades. As a result, this music reflects a somber tone, but also of determination.

Full Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.1008374 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Arkady Leytush. 20th Century. Score and parts. 24 pages. Arkady Leytush #4849775. Published by Arkady Leytush (A0.1008374). Estampes (Engravings) is the title of the triptych of three pieces which Debussy put together in 1903. The first complete performance was given on 9 January 1904 in the Salle Erard, Paris, by the young Spanish pianist Ricardo Viñes, who was already emerging as the prime interpreter of the new French music of Debussy and Ravel. The first two pieces were completed in 1903, but the third derives from an earlier group of pieces from 1894, collectively titled Images, which remained unpublished until 60 years after Debussy’s death, when they were printed as Images (oubliées). Estampes marks an expansion of Debussy’s keyboard style: he was apparently spurred to fuse neo-Lisztian technique with a sensitive, impressionistic pictorial impulse under the impact of discovering Ravel’s Jeux d’eau, published in 1902. The opening movement, ‘Pagodes’, is Debussy’s first pianistic evocation of the Orient and is essentially a fixed contemplation of its object, as in a Chinese print. This static impression is partly caused by Debussy’s use of long pedal-points, partly by his almost constant preoccupation with pentatonic melodies which subvert the sense of harmonic movement. He uses such pentatonic fragments in many different ways: in delicate arabesques, in two-part counterpoint, in canon, harmonized in fourths and fifths and as an underpinning for pattering, gamelan-like ostinato writing. Altogether the piece reflects the decisive impression made on him by hearing Javanese and Cambodian musicians at the 1889 Paris Exposition, which he had striven for years to incorporate effectively in music. In its final bars the music begins to dissolve into elaborate filigree.Just as ‘Pagodes’ was his first Oriental piece, so ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ was the first of Debussy’s evocations of Spain-that preternatural embodiment of an ‘imaginary Andalusia’ which would inspire Manuel de Falla, the native Spaniard, to go back to his country and create a true modern Spanish music based on Debussyan principles. Debussy’s personal acquaintance with Spain was virtually non-existent (he had spent a day just over the border at San Sebastian) and it is possible that one model for the piece was Ravel’s Habanera. Yet he wrote of this piece (to his friend Pierre Louÿs, to whom it was dedicated), ‘if this isn’t the music they play in Granada, so much the worse for Granada!’-and there is no debate about the absolute authenticity of Debussy’s use of Spanish idioms here. Falla himself pronounced it ‘characteristically Spanish in every detail’. ‘La soirée dans Grenade’ is founded on an ostinato that echoes the rhythm of the habanera and is present almost throughout. Beginning and ending in almost complete silence, this dark nocturne of warm summer nights builds powerfully to its climaxes. The melodic material ranges from a doleful Moorish chant with a distinctly oriental character to a stamping, vivacious dance-measure, taking in brief suggestions of guitar strumming and perfumed Impressionist haze. There is even a hint of castanets near the end. The piece fades out in a coda that seems to distil all the melancholy of the Moorish theme and a last few distant chords of the guitar. ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ is based on the children’s song ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’ (We shan’t go to the woods): its original 1894 form was in fact entitled Quelques aspects de ‘Nous n’rons plus au bois’. The two versions are really two distinct treatments of the same set of ideas, but in ‘Jardins sous la pluie’ Estampes the earlier piece has been entirely rethought. The whole conception is more impressionistic, and subtilized. The teeming semiquaver motion is more all-pervasive, the tunes (for Debussy has added a second children’s song for treatment, ‘Do, do, l’enfant do’) more elusive and tinged sometimes with melancholy or nostalgia. The ending of the piece is entirely new. What it loses, perha.

A Christmas celebration for SATB choirs This gospel-flavored musical reflects on the promise of peace delivered by the angels on the night of Jesus' birth. The iconic ballad, Let There Be Peace on Earth is used as musical bookends: its theme is briefly stated in the second movement and then returns in full-blown gospel style at the end to provide an emotion-filled climax. In between, the Christmas story is told through scriptural narration and six beloved carols set in a variety of styles ranging from jazz, to gospel, to calypso. Accompaniment can be provided by piano, full orchestra, or a smaller set of rhythm parts, arranged by Ed Hogan. Performance time is 35 minutes.

William Billings, the first native-born American composer, wrote Chester as a patriotic tune embracing the American disdain for their British overlords and espousing the need for freedom and self-determination. The title, merely reflects a common practice of the time of having hymn tunes named for the location of their composition, rather than for their content. The piece served as a sort of de facto national anthem in the early years of our nationhood. The original words are supposedly by Billings himself.Let tyrants shake their iron rod,And Slav'ry clank her galling chains,We fear them not, we trust in God,New England's God forever reigns.Howe and Burgoyne and Clinton too,With Prescot and Cornwallis join'd,Together plot our Overthrow,In one Infernal league combin'd.When God inspir'd us for the fight,Their ranks were broke, their lines were forc'd,Their ships were Shatter'd in our sight,Or swiftly driven from our Coast. The Foe comes on with haughty Stride; Our troops advance with martial noise,Their Vet'rans flee before our Youth,And Gen'rals yield to beardless Boys. What grateful Off'ring shall we bring? What shall we render to the Lord?Loud Halleluiahs let us Sing,And praise his name on ev'ry Chord.

Published by Martin Calvert (A0.1022851). The term Illyria has been used in several different historical and mythological events. The inspiration for this piece dates to 165BC. The Romans defeated Gentius, the last king of Illyria, at Scodra (in present-day Albania) in 168 BC and captured him, bringing him to Rome in 165 BC. Four client-republics were set up, which were in fact ruled by Rome. Later, the region was directly governed by Rome and organised as a province, with Scodra as its capital. The music reflects the conflict and dissonant nature of the time.

Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.1317490). Johann Simon Mayr (1763—1845) is a composer rarely performed today. His music, reflecting the transition from the Classical to the Romantic musical era, inspired Rossini and was crucial in the development of Donizetti’s style. He became a central figure in the musical life of the Italian city of Bergamo where, in 1805, he founded the Conservatory, at the time known as “Lezioni Caritatevoli di Musicaâ€. One of the first pupils of the “Lezioni†was Gaetano Donizetti, whose production and fame soon arose above everyone else’s. The first concerto, in C major, is one of the three surviving keyboard concertos from Mayr’s manuscripts kept in the Biblioteca Musicale Gaetano Donizetti and in the Museo Donizettiano. It is pedagogical in nature, its light orchestration (only 2 oboes and 2 horns joining the strings) allowing it to be performed with minimal forces. In three movements, spanning about 18 minutes in total, it looks back at a late Classical style that was quickly fading out of fashion at the time of its creation (1825-6).This edition comes with the unique contribution of M° Fabrizio Capitanio, in the form of a thorough musicological research delving deep into the historical context, and all of the critical aspects that made this work possible.A reduction for two pianos is available under Catalogue N° ASE 0051, while orchestral parts can be found as a bundle under Catalogue N° ASE 0053.This edition is also the first one in the new series dedicated to the City of Bergamo: La Bergamasque!
